Linking the Old and New Testaments
During Jesus' time of temptation in the desert, he countered the Devil 3 times
with quotations from the Book of Deuteronomy.
Devil attacks in Matthew 4:3-19
Jesus rebukes him him by quoting Deuteronomy 8:3, 6:16, and 6:13
Jesus quoted the two greatest commandments in Matthew 22:37-40
Jesus uses the Old Testament to explain his ministry Isaiah 61:1-2.
Jesus predicts that his disciples will fall away.
Zechariah 13:7, matt 26:31
Jesus words on the cross, Jesus quotes from 22:1 and Psalm 69:21
Christy's personal notes and observations...
I would have done this lesson a little differently....I would have focused on
prophecies in the Old Testament being fulfilled in the new. For instance, if
you want to know which prophecies were fulfilled by the coming on Christ, you
can start by reading Psalm 22 and Psalm 69. It is not just AMAZING, it is
OVERWHELMING! I am just baffled by the fact that the Israelites did not
recognize Him, but even that was prophecied!
I believe I finished the page on my website about the prophecies that Jesus
fulfilled, and there would be scriptures noted. Let me see if I can find a link
....
AHA! it was on the bible truths pages, and I only referenced 7, but there are 22
prophecies regarding the life, death and resurrection of Jesus in Psalms alone!
Psalms contains 22 prophecies regarding the life, death and resurrection of
Jesus. Including these: He will be raised from the dead. (16:10)
He will be mocked and insulted ( 22:7-8)
His hands and feet will be pierced (22:16)
His clothes will be gambled for(22:18)
Not one of his bones will be broken (34:20) He will be betrayed
by a friend (41:9)
He will be given gall and vinegar to drink (69:21).

Ok Betty at least now I know you are all right. I hope the Baclofen is eliminating your spasms. You haven't said how it is working.

You know God places people like Laurie in our lives for a reason. I am sorry that her words hurt but if she got through to you and was dead on right than I am glad that she spoke up and you have heeded her words of advice.

Hope that Jim and you are both doing well.

The Lord's Prayer - VERY GOOD

2008-06-29 08:26:34

This has probably been around before, but I sat here and read it all the way through this afternoon and chuckled, I found it to be so well written....kind of a wake-up call in a few lines for me. Anyway, I hope you enjoy. CC

The Lord's Prayer
An Interactive Prayer With Our Father.
Comical but Sincere!
The Lord's Prayer

person)- 'Our Father which art in heaven...'

(God)---Yes?

(person) Don't interrupt me. I'm praying.

(God)---But you called me.

(person) Called you? I didn't call you. I'm praying. "Our Father which art
in heaven.."

(God)---There you did it again.

(person)-Did what?

(God) Called me. You said, "Our Father which art in heaven." Here I am.
What's on your mind?

(person)-But I didn't mean anything by it. I was, you know, just saying my
prayers for the day. I always say the Lord's Prayer. It makes me feel good,
kind of like getting a duty done.

(God)---All right. Go on.

(person)-"Hallowed be thy name..."

(God)---Hold it. What do you mean by that?

(person) By what?

(God)---By "hallowed be thy name"?

(person)-It means... it means... Good grief, I don't know what it means. How
should I know? It's just a part of the prayer. By the way, what does it
mean?

(God)---It means honored, holy, wonderful.

(person)-Hey, that makes sense. I never thought about what "hallowed" meant
before. "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."

(God)---Do you really mean that?

(person)-Sure, why not?

(God)---What are you doing about it?

(person)-Doing? Nothing, I guess. I just think it would be kind of neat if
you got control of everything down here like you have up there.

(God)---Have I got control of you?

(person)-Well, I go to church.

(God)---That isn't what I asked you. What about the way you belittle your
peers? You have really got a problem there, you know. And then there's the
way you spend your money ---all on yourself. And what about the kind of
books you
read?

(person)-Stop picking on me! I'm just as good as some of the rest of those
people at the church.

(God)---Excuse me. I thought you were praying for my will to be done. If
that is to happen, it will have to start with the ones who are praying for
it. Like you, for example.

(person)-Oh, all right. I guess I do have some hang-ups. Now that you
mention it, I could probably name some others.

(God)---So could I.

(person)-I haven't thought about it very much until now, but I really would
like to cut out some of those things. I would like to, you know, be really
free.

(God)---Good. Now we're getting somewhere. We'll work together, you and I.
Some victories can truly be won. I'm proud of you.

(person)-Look, Lord, I need to finish up here. This is taking a lot longer
than it usually does. "Give us this day, our daily bread."

(God)---You need to cut out the bread. You're overweight as it is.

(person)-Hey, wait a minute! What is this, "Criticize me day"? Here I was
doing my religious duty, and all of a sudden you break in and remind me of
all my hang-ups.

(God)---Praying is a dangerous thing. You could wind up changed, you know.
That's what I'm trying to get across to you. You called me, and here I am.
It's too late to stop now. Keep praying, I'm interested in the next part of
your prayer...

(pause).

Well, go on.

(person)-I'm scared to.

(God)---Scared? Of what?

(person)-I know what you'll say.

(God)---Try me and see.

(person)-"Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us."

(God)---What about Ann?

(person)-See? I knew it! I knew you would bring her up! Why, Lord, she's
told lies about me, spread stories about my family. She never paid back the
debt she owes me. I've sworn to get even with her!

(God)---But your prayer? What about your prayer?

(person)-I didn't mean it.

(God)---Well, at least you're admitting it. But it's not much fun carrying
that load of bitterness around inside, is it?

(person)-No. But I'll feel better as soon as I get even. Boy, have I got
some plans for that neighbor. She'll wish she had never moved into this
neighborhood.

(God)---You won't feel any better. You'll feel worse. Revenge isn't sweet.
Think of how unhappy you already are. But I can change all that.

(person)-You can? How?

(God)---Forgive Ann. Then I'll forgive you. Then the hate and sin will be
Ann's problem and not yours. You will have settled your heart.

(person)-Oh, you're right. You always are. And more than I want to revenge
Ann, I want to be right with you....

(pause)...(sigh). All right. All right. I forgive her. Help her to find
the right road in life, Lord. She's bound to be awfully miserable now that I
think about it. Anybody who goes around doing the things she does to others
has to be out of it. Someway, somehow, show her the right way.

(God)---There now! Wonderful! How do you feel?

(person)-Hmmm. Well, not bad. Not bad at all. In fact, I feel pretty great!
You know, I don't think I'll have to go to bed uptight tonight for the
first time since I can remember. Maybe I won't be so tired from now on
because I'm not getting
enough rest.

(God)---You're not through with your prayer. Go on.

(person)-Oh, all right. "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil."

(God)---Good! Good! I'll do that. Just don't put yourself in a place where
you can be tempted.

(person)-What do you mean by that?

(God)---Don't turn on the TV when you know the laundry needs to be done and
the house needs to be picked up. Also, about the time you spend coffee-ing
with your friends, if you can't influence the conversation to positive
things, perhaps you should rethink the value of those friendships. Another
thing, your neighbors and friends shouldn't be your standard for "keeping
up". And please don't use me for an escape hatch.

(person)-I don't understand the last part.

(God)---Sure you do. You've done it a lot of times. You get caught in a
bad situation. You get into trouble and then you come running to me, "Lord,
help me out of this mess, and I promise you I'll never do it again." You
remember some of
those bargains you tried to make with me?

(person)-Yes, and I'm ashamed, Lord. I really am.

(God)---Which bargain are you remembering?

(person)-Well, there was the night that the children and I were home alone.
The wind was blowing so hard I thought the roof would go any minute and
tornado warnings were out. I remember praying, "Oh, God, if you spare us,
I'll never skip my
devotions again."

(God) --Did you?

(person)-I'm sorry, Lord, I really am. Up until now I thought that if I
just prayed the Lord's Prayer every day, then I could do what I liked. I
didn't expect anything to happen like it did.

(God)---Go ahead and finish your prayer.

(person)-"For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever."

Amen

(God)---Do you know what would bring me glory? What would really make me
happy?

(person)-No, but I'd like to know. I want now to please you. I can see what
a mess I've made of my life. And I can see how great it would be to really
be one of your followers.

(God)---You just answered the question.

(person)-I did?

(God)---Yes. The thing that would bring me glory is to have people like you
truly love me. And I see that happening between us. Now that some of these
old sins are exposed and out of the way, well, there is no telling what we
can do together.

(person)-Lord, let's see what we can make of me, OK? Amen!

Question ?

2008-06-29 05:45:14

Well, I have a couple of questions. The first is, I suppose, the
important one. Did any of you on baclofen experience nausea when you
were trying to adjust to the pills? And I think my brain is dying. The
second one is important right now and is just because I'm lazy and will
have taken care of the problem before I get any answers. I have lost
around 30 lbs and my underwear is too big. The problem is that I have
it on right now and it's crawling up my behind every time I move and
making me crazy. So, either I have to not move or take a shower and
change my underwear to a smaller size (I bought some because of this
problem). So I dicided to take a poll and see what all of you thought.
Actually, it keeps me from moving a little longer and having to adjust
my underwear. LOL
Love Ya,
Betty

sharing good and bad

2008-06-28 23:50:23

by all means!
share good and bad with us! Being Christians, we know of God's promises, and He
says that He will work bad into good for those that love Him, so even with
something 'bad' happens, we know that the Lord will make it into something with
purpose. We love to hear about how he does that! He gave His permission to
Satan to afflict us with these illnesses (Job tells us that nothing happens to
anyone without God's permission)and we just wait and see what He does with it!

Hello All

2008-06-28 13:45:41

Hello everyone....
long time no hear...yes I know and I am so sorry.I was working some
really long hours getting ready for the NC state lottery started, and
then went offline to move<yes!! for those who knew what had
happened,I am in a bigger house now,3 bedroom and 1 mile from work
I wasnt expecting to be offline that long, but they had to send the
modem and set up the dsl to the house.
I am now nite shift manager at the travel plaza,so I am still
working 3-11,but get to sit down more which is good being I am again
having trouble w/ rt leg.I am going to be needing more surgery, femor
and knee replacement and thankfully my job is willing to work w/ me
and keep my job,and keep me working if at all possible instead of
home on disability. They have actually been great w/ my medical
issues and thankfully I have medco & aflec insurance,so I am not
racking up too many medical bills yet. They have me on lidocain
patches, tramadol and oxycontin for pain, which works for the most
part.
I also have alot more help where I moved coz everyone I work w/ and
freinds are all out here, and its easier to help me here then to
drive 22 miles to old house<altho, that set up backfired really
badly, considering all the promises made to me,and that added to why
I moved
Anyhow,I am off to bed just wanted to touch base and update you all
and say hello to all the new members.I hope to hear from ya all and
hear how you are doing,I missed being here ,and pray you are all
doing well...
Luv to all
Sandy

back at you

Re: Hi All

2008-06-27 23:33:28

Oh My Betty!!! I am so sorry to hear of this new pain you are having. I really hope that it is nothing very serious and that the doctor can see you when it is happening.

One suggestion I might make is that if you have a video recorder that you have someone with you tape your episodes so the doctor could possibly view it that way?

And please please be very careful about taking all these drugs. I do NOT want you to overdose either.

I can tell you that I was having spasms but not to the degree that you speak of. My doctor also put me on baclofen which I still take. I am on what he says is the highest dosage he can give me which is 20mg 4 times a day. I tried to stop using them one time because they are very expensive med and I noticed the spasms began again immediately.

I was also told about a pain pump but chose not to have one inserted for much the same reason as the morphine pump and also my age.

Please keep us posted hun.

I worry about you.

Love

Dori

Who do YOU Love?

2008-06-27 11:40:17

Who do YOU Love??
If you aren't ashamed to do this, please follow the directions.
Jesus said, " If you are ashamed of me," I will be ashamed of you before my
Father."
Not ashamed, pass this on . . . only if you mean it. Yes, I do love God.
God is my source of existence and Savior. God keeps me functioning each and
every day. Without God, I will be nothing. Without God, I am nothing, but
with God, I can do all things through Jesus Christ that strengthens me.
Phil 4:13
This is the simplest test . . . if you Love God, and are not ashamed of all
the marvelous things he has done for you.
Send this to ten people and the person who sent it to you!

Fw: Don't Leave it on the Desk

2008-06-25 06:33:50

Subject: Don't Leave it on the Desk
This is a very graphic story of the gift offered to each of us. Please take time to read it to the conclusion.

[INLINE]

An Easter Parable:
Don't Leave It On The Desk
There was a certain Professor of Religion named Dr. Christianson.
A studious man who taught at a small college in the western United States.
Dr. Christianson taught the required survey course in Christianity
at this particular institution. Every student was required to take this course in his or her freshman year, regardless of his or her major.
Although Dr. Christianson tried hard to communicate the essence
of the Gospel in his class, he found that most of his students looked upon the course as nothing but required drudgery. Despite his best efforts, most students refused to take Christianity seriously.
This year, Dr. Christianson had a special student named Steve. Steve was only a freshman, but was studying with the intent of going on to a Seminary for the ministry. Steve was popular, he was well liked, and he was an imposing physical specimen. He was now the starting center on the school football team, and was the best student in the professor's class.
One day, Dr. Christianson asked Steve to stay after class so he could talk with him.
"How many push-ups can you do?"
Steve said, "I do about 200 every night."
"200? That's pretty good, Steve," Dr. Christianson said. "Do you
think you could do 300?"
Steve replied, "I don't know.... I've never done 300 at a time."
"Do you think you could?" again asked Dr. Christianson.
"Well, I can try," said Steve.
"Can you do 300 in sets of 10? I have a class project in mind and I
need you to do about 300 push-ups in sets of ten for this to work. Can you do it? I need you to tell me you can do it," said the professor.
Steve said, "Well... I think I can...yeah, I can do it"
Dr. Christianson said, "Good! I need you to do this on Friday. Let
me explain what I have in mind."
Friday came and Steve got to class early and sat in the front of the room. When class started, the professor pulled out a big box of
donuts. No, these weren't the normal kinds of donuts, they were the extra fancy BIG kind, with cream centers and frosting swirls. Everyone was pretty excited it was Friday, the last class of the day, and they were going to get an early start on the weekend with a party in Dr. Christianson's class.
Dr. Christianson went to the first girl in the first row and asked, "Cynthia, do you want to have one of these donuts?"
Cynthia said, "Yes."
Dr. Christianson then turned to Steve and asked, "Steve, would you do ten push-ups so that Cynthia can have a donut?"
"Sure." Steve jumped down from his desk to do a quick ten.
Then Steve again sat in his desk. Dr. Christianson put a donut on Cynthia's desk.
Dr. Christianson then went to Joe, the next person, and asked, "Joe, do you want a donut?"
Joe said, "Yes." Dr. Christianson asked, "Steve would you do
ten push-ups so Joe can have a donut?"
Steve did ten push-ups, Joe got a donut. And so it went, down
the first aisle, Steve did ten pushups for every person before they got their donut.
Walking down the second aisle, Dr. Christianson came to Scott. Scott was on the basketball team, and in as good condition as Steve. He was very popular and never lacking for female companionship.
When the professor asked, "Scott do you want a donut?"
Scott's reply was, "Well, can I do my own pushups?"
Dr. Christianson said, "No, Steve has to do them."
Then Scott said, "Well, I don't want one then." Dr. Christianson shrugged and then turned to Steve and asked, "Steve, would you
do ten pushups so Scott can have a donut he doesn't want?" With perfect obedience Steve started to do ten pushups.
Scott said, "HEY! I said I didn't want one!"
Dr. Christianson said, "Look!, this is my classroom, my class,
my desks, and these are my donuts. Just leave it on the desk
you don't want it." He put a donut on Scott's desk.
Now by this time, Steve had begun to slow down a little. He
just stayed on the floor between sets because it took too much effort to be getting up and down. You could start to see a little perspiration coming out around his brow.
Dr. Christianson started down the third row. Now the students were beginning to get a little angry. Dr. Christianson asked Jenny,
"Jenny, do you want a donut?"
Sternly, Jenny said, "No."
Then Dr. Christianson asked Steve, "Steve, would you do ten
more push-ups so Jenny can have a donut that she doesn't want?"
Steve did ten....Jenny got a donut.
By now, a growing sense of uneasiness filled the room. The students were beginning to say "No" and there were all these uneaten donuts on the desks.
Steve also had to really put forth a lot of extra effort to get
these pushups done for each donut. There began to be a small
pool of sweat on the floor beneath his face, his arms and brow
were beginning to get red because of the physical effort involved.
Dr. Christianson asked Robert, who was the most vocal
unbeliever in the class, to watch Steve do each push up to
couldn't bear to watch all of Steve's work for all of those uneaten donuts. He sent Robert over to where Steve was so Robert
could count the set and watch Steve closely.
Dr. Christianson started down the fourth row. During his class,
however, some students from other classes had wandered in
and sat down on the steps along the radiators that ran down
the sides of the room. When the professor realized this, he
did a quick count and saw that now there were 34 students in
the room. He started to worry if Steve would be able to make it.
Dr. Christianson went on to the next person and the next and
the next.
Near the end of that row, Steve was really having a rough time.
He was taking a lot more time to complete each set.
Steve asked Dr Christianson, "Do I have to make my nose touch on each one?"
Dr. Christianson thought for a moment, "Well, they're your pushups. You are in charge now. You can do them any way that
you want." Dr. Christianson went on.
A few moments later, Jason, a recent transfer student, came
to the room and was about to come in when all the students
yelled in one voice, "NO! Don't come in! Stay out!"
Jason didn't know what was going on. Steve picked up his head and said, "No, let him come."
Professor Christianson said, "You realize that if Jason comes in you will have to do ten pushups for him?"
Steve said, "Yes, let him come in. Give him a donut"
Dr. Christianson said, "Okay, Steve, I'll let you get Jason's out
of the way right now. Jason, do you want a donut?"
Jason, new to the room, hardly knew what was going on.
"Yes," he said, "give me a donut."
"Steve, will you do ten push-ups so that Jason can have
a donut?"
Steve did ten pushups very slowly and with great effort.
Jason, bewildered, was handed a donut and sat down.
Dr. Christianson finished the fourth row, and then started on those visitors seated by the heaters. Steve's arms were now shaking with each push-up in a struggle to lift himself against
the force of gravity. By this time sweat was profusely dropping
off of his face, there was no sound except his heavy breathing; there was not a dry eye in the room.
The very last two students in the room were two young women, both cheerleaders, and very popular. Dr. Christianson went to
Linda, the second to last, and asked, "Linda, do you want a doughnut?"
Linda said, very sadly, "No, thank you."
Professor Christianson quietly asked, "Steve, would you do
ten push-ups so that Linda can have a donut she doesn't want?"
Grunting from the effort, Steve did ten very slow pushups for Linda.
Then Dr Christianson turned to the last girl, Susan. "Susan,
do you want a donut?"
Susan, with tears flowing down her face, began to cry.
"Dr. Christianson, why can't I help him?"
Dr. Christianson, with tears of his own, said, "No, Steve has
to do it alone, I have given him this task and he is in charge of seeing that everyone has an opportunity for a donut whether
they want it or not.
When I decided to have a party this last day of class, I looked
at my grade book. Steve here is the only student with a perfect grade. Everyone else has failed a test, skipped class, or offered
me inferior work. Steve told me that in football practice, when
a player messes up he must do push-ups. I told Steve that none
of you could come to my party unless he paid the price by doing your push ups. He and I made a deal for your sakes."
"Steve, would you do ten push-ups so Susan can have a donut?"
As Steve very slowly finished his last pushup, with the understanding that he had accomplished all that was required
of him, having done 350 pushups, his arms buckled beneath
him and he fell to the floor.
Dr. Christianson turned to the room and said. "And so it was,
that our Savior, Jesus Christ, on the cross, plead to the Father,
'into thy hands I commend my spirit.' With the understanding
that He had done everything that was required of Him, He
yielded up His life. And like some of those in this room, many
of us leave the gift on the desk, uneaten."
Two students helped Steve up off the floor and to a seat, physically exhausted, but wearing a thin smile.
"Well done, good and faithful servant," said the professor,
adding, "Not all sermons are preached in words."
Turning to his class, the professor said, "My wish is that you
might understand and fully comprehend all the riches of grace
and mercy that have been given to you through the sacrifice of
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He spared not only His Begotten Son, but gave Him up for us all, for the whole Church, now and forever. Whether or not we choose to accept His gift to us, the
price has been paid."
"Wouldn't you be foolish and ungrateful to leave it lying on the
desk?"
Share this with someone. It's bound to touch their heart and
demonstrate Salvation in a very special way.

New here

2008-06-23 05:52:49

Hi, I suppose a little intro would be good. I am 42, married 20 years this June, have 2 sons at home ages 17
and 13, and home schooling my 13 year old. I have been rather lonesome, as I choose to remain at home due to so many problems with the fms. Winter is especially hard as it is so cold and dreary and I cannot get outside to do anything in my yard. Seems the pain is always worse in winter and I have a harder time forcing myself to exercise. I am just looking for a little "company" as well as resources for relief and management of day to day living with fms. Being the only lady
in the house is not as much fun as having other ladies to talk with and
listen to and pray for.

Your Bible study is what brought my attention to you. I think it's lovely. I could use a little of that as it's hard for me to keep in the Bible when I don't feel so good. I don't mean to sound so pathetic, ether...I have my better days...but not always so sure about the fibro-fog. Seems that never goes away anymore. So I'm not always the best at keeping up with posting and I probably say some dumb things....especially if I'm not getting my sleep., Well, anyway I'll sign off with my web site addy and you can look it over if you like as it will allow you to know more about me, even though I'm still working on it. And then you can decide if you think I would fit into your group. Do you think that sounds fare?

May God bless and guide you. Hope you have a delightful day.

is this how to study the bible helping anyone else?

2008-06-22 13:55:20

hi all!
just wanted to check in and see if anyone else was benefitting from this
how-to-study the bible study as much as I am. Never realized there were so
many ways to study the bible! And it makes sense! I often pick out one word
related to my question (I usually only do a real in-depth bible study when I
have a pressing question that I am DIGGING for an answer.)
first, I look up the usage of the word, where and how many times...and any other
words I can think of that might have been used similarly. Then, I look up the
Greek word, and how else the word might have been used...and then look up those
scriptures. The Lord really blesses my efforts with a much wider understnading
than I could ever gotten from just reading a verse, no matter how many times I
read it.

how to study the bible cont'd - under a microscope

2008-06-22 02:51:24

Thinking aobut one person, theme event or word is a most helpful way of studying
the Bible.
This study wil put the key word 'faith' under the microscope. It is posible to
make such a study by tracking down the places where the word comes in the Bible.
The word 'faith' can be be found for the first time in each chapter in the verse
listed. (Note: some versions use the word believe or convert in it's place)
Hebrews 1:1
"Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."
Galations 2:20
:I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
Look up these other verses for other ways the word faith is used.
James 2:5, Romans 4:3, Galations 3:6, 1 Timonthy 1:2, Mark 9:23, Romans 14:1, 1
Corinthians 13:2, Colossions 2:5, Titus 1:1, @ Peter 1:1

how to study the bible cont'd- telescopic approach

2008-06-21 21:52:46

To gain an overview of a long and involved book of the bible, it is sometimes
best to read it in one sitting. John's Gospel can be read in about an hour.
John tells us why he wrote his gospel:
"Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which
are not recoreded in the book. But these are written that you many believe that
Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in
his name." John 20:30-31
Major themese of John's Gospel
useful to keep them in mind while reading.
Eternal Life
The Holy Spirit
Jesus died for sinners
Outline of Johns' Gospel
Introduction
Jesus' work in Galilee, Judea and Samaria
Jesus heals a lame man on the Sabbath
Jesus feeds five thousand people
Jesus meets oppostition at the Feast of Tabernacles
Jesus is the Good Shepherd
Jesus is the life-restorer
Jesus meets opposition entering Jerusalem
Jesus in the upper room
Jesus prepares for his departure
Jesus prays for his followers
Jesus' arrest, trials and crucifixion
Jesus' resurrection
Read through John's Gospel again
- This time watch for words 'believe' and 'faith' and words related to them
These words, and associated words, appear nearly 100 times in John's Gospel

how to study the bible....questions to ask/reference

2008-06-20 23:39:11

Questions to Ask
When we read the bible, one of the best ways sto increase our understanding is
to ask questions about it.
There are some general questions which are well worth asking of any Bible
passage. Some people find it helpful to have a notepad in which they write down
all their question, and the answers they discover.
What have I learned abut God the Father?
What have I learned about Jeusus?
What have I learned about the Holy Spirit?
Did I find a good example to follow?
Is there a promise to believe in the passge?
Is there a command to obey?
Available Types of Study Materials and References
Commentaries are books which give systemic comments, observations, and sometimes
personal application notes, on different passages of the Bible. These books may
be commentaries on the whole bible, or only on a specific book.
Concordances
These are books which enable you to look up almost any word found in the Bible.
For instance, if you want to find where to look for passages about 'grace'. By
looking up the occurence of the word grace in the New Testament, you would
discover that it was most often linked with 'peace'. Other information may be
gleaned from the references. For example, you could find out who gives grace,
and what the purpose of receiving grace is. Bible concordances are linked to a
particular translation of the Bible. So, if you purchase one, make sure it is
based on the Bible version you will be studying from.
Bible Dictionaries
Not just for looking up individual words, but also Bible people and Bible
themes. If you look up Samaria, you not only will read about the origin of the
country, but also about Samaritans.
New Testament Interlinears
You need to know just a little Greek to benefit from an interlinear Bible. New
Testament interlinears set the complete New in Greek, with the literal English
Translation for each word underneath eal line of Greek text. This make it
possible so that you can see which Greek word was used in a particular verse.
Bible Handbooks
These books are excellent for giving yyou background information about the
Bible, along with a summary of each Bible book. They cover such topics as
archaeology, minerals, animals, insects, plants and herbs, trades, travel,
warfare, money, marriage, childhood, disease and music.
Bible Atlases
These are ideal for increasing our understanding of the Bible.
God told Jonah to go to Ninevah, but he headed for Tarshish. The magnitde of
Jonah's disobedience is revealed by the atlas, when you see that Tarshish was
hundreds of miles AND in the opposite direction!
a personal note from christy: I can personally recommend the on-line study
bible and materials at www.Bibleweb.com. Easy to use, just use the drop down
menu to choose which of the translations you want and type in a word, a phrase,
or a verse number...study references available I believe show on the right side,
just a click, and you have have lots of info!

Pregnancy

2008-06-20 05:55:46

Has anyone else gotten pregnant while during the time they were using their scs?
I am still concerned about the effects or changes I am going to go thru as the
baby grows....
I can already feel my battery pack and it sometimes feels as if one corner of it
is going to push right thru my scar. I am wondering how being pregnant is going
to effect my leads, battery, and how and where the stimulation takes place. Has
any woman out there been thru this yet?

pro-life counselor training/ please pray

hi Ladies
please pray for me, as beginning tonight, I enter into a training program to
become a pro-life counselor. Please pray that the Lord will give me a heart so
full of love for these women in crisis, that there will be no room for feelings
of resentment, envy or judgement.
also, the pregnancy crisis center will be on the church grounds at the church we
began attending, therefore my
Matthew 25:40 Ministries efforts will now support this new branch of the
Northcoast Crisis Pregnancy Care Center. It is wonderful to feel the Lord using
me.

a Bible Study? Can it be??? YES!!! and made easy!!

2008-06-19 04:29:24

hi all!
am using a little nifty book I found called Bible Study Made Easy......which
actually outlines HOW to get the most from a bible study. I thought this would
be worthwhile for me, so I thought it might be to others. I will just try to do
a little bit each day. Grab a bible, you'll want to look up the verses to get
the most out of it.
So, starting at the beginning........
Pray before you start.....
Psalm 119:18 is used as a prayer by many before reading the bible......
"Open my eyes (that is my spiritual understanding) that I may see wonderful
things in you law. Amen."
The main point of bible study is NOT to acquire knowledge, but to get acquainted
with God and his purpose for you.
When faced with a passage difficult to understand, simply pray that God will
illuminate the passage for you. Write a note to yourself, reference the
scripture, ad then ask an exprerienced Christian, or check it out in a trusted
biblereference.
Reading the bible as an abstract exercise will result in sheer boredom that
eventaully gives in to giving up.
Each time you read, ask God to show you how to take action on what you have
read----then do it.
Nine Ways NOT to Study the Bible
1. Taking text out of its context.
ex. Am I my brotheer's keeper? read Gen 4:9 and it's surrounding verses for
the full idea.
2. Interpreting a poetic image in a literal way.
Psalm 93:1 for example.
3. Misquoting a verse
Money is the root of all evil. 1 Timothy 6:10 is one of the most frequently
misquoted verses.
4. Quoting half a verse. Matthew 22:21 is a good example ...
5. Studying only the 'nice' verse..Face the tough, sometimes disturbing verses
head on. Read Psalm 137: 8-9, "Happy is he.....who seizes your infants and
dashes them against the rocks" Remeber the psalmist did not know of the coming
sacrifice that Christ would make, and was calling for immediate vengeance
against evil.
6. Getting bogged down and submerged in the Old Testament. Have you read
Leviticus??? BORING! Start with more familiar, key passages, before heading
into the laws of the Israelites. Genesis 1:1-2:7. , Genesis 3:6-24, Psalm 23.
7. Starting with the most difficult New Testament books. Best not to start in
Revelation or the letter to the Hebrews. Instead, try the conversion of Paul,
Acts9:1-31
8. Not acting on the Bible's commands
James 1:22 says "Be doers of the word, not hearers only."
9. Using the Bible as a battleground for fruitless arguments. Avoid arguing
over unimportant things.
See Titus 3:9

Has anyone ever just got agiated by by it ?

2008-06-19 00:52:23

Hi All,
it has been a while since I have posted on here. I just wanted to
ask if Anyone has ever become agiated by there SCS running all the
time, I have had mine in for a little over 2 years now I have 4
different settings on mine depending on what activity i am doing and
I can not sleep with mine on because that is all I think about when I
am trying to go to sleep at night. Sometimes. My battery is implanted
in my behind and they want to move it because I keep bumping it on
things and I can see it through my clothing. But anyways I get
agiated sometimes when it is running it seems that all I can think
about is it and the buzzing it sends through me, I am still on
medication I take Kadian,Topamax,Cymbalta and Baclofen. Anfd I am
pretty much out of it most of the time I have had numerous adjustment
over this 2 year period, But I just can't seem to find any happy
adjustment that does not agiat me when it is on. Is there anyone else
with this problem ??????
Thanks Kathy
P.S. I have a Conus Lipoma tumor in my spine that can not be removed
that has cause me total saddle block numbness and bowel, bladder
incontinence the tumor has all the nerves that control that control
the lower part of my body growing though it. I have had a number of
test and have been told there is nothing that can be done to remove
it. I am like a spinal cord injury pateint but I am able to walk a
little bit and have feeling fron the back of my knees down.

Hi to all

2008-06-16 16:55:33

Greetings to everybody, and especially our List-Mom, Christy!
I'd like to share some of my thoughts on Chronic Pain and Depression.
I believe that chronic pain of any kind has a direct relationship with
depression. I think the connection is quite natural.
When you are in pain, the body releases chemicals, many of which can induce
fatigue and depression. This is actually a good
thing for the body, because when you are in pain something in the body is
"broken" and so you need to rest and stay still so no
more damage occurs to the to the "broken" part(s).
I have alot more to say on this subject, but that's all for now, because I have
to get up, get dressed and go the chiropractor
so he can adjust some of my broken parts!!
Take care and may God give you His peace -- which passes all understanding.

Thanks Mike. I'm new here, have failed back syndrome with chronic pain, deg.
disc disease and arthritis. I got my SCS implanted in Feb. and was told that
they couldn't attatch one of the leads due to ligaments or bone that was in the
way. So I have only one paddle attached. My trial gave me 99.9% relief but the
permanent one is giving me only about a 50% reduction in pain. Needless to say,
I'm thankful for the 50% but very disappointed that they couldn't get the other
lead attached. Most of my pain is in my legs so I still have a lot of pain
walking. I also have trouble going to sleep.
Does anyone know if they can go back in and try to attach the other lead again?
I would love to have the relief that I got during the trial implant.
Thanks for starting this group Mike, I've learned a lot from just reading the
posts and I hope I can help others.

2008-06-16 08:08:32

Ladies, I just got phone call...I am so relieved that the procdes is
over and I have been qualified. There were so many questions
regarding the amount when I mentioned it, I thought I would clear it
up the best I can. It is not SSI it is just SS benefits....the amount
per month is $1771 and that includes for my children, my 3 kids do
indeed get a seperate check each month to be used to help cover their
expenses and to save for the future. It has to do with the amount I
paid in while I was working. Oh ladies, this is such a relief.....I
haven't been able to work for over 3 years now and it has been such a
struggle! I wasn't relly worried, because I clung to the promise that
the Lord provides, but not knowing how that would happen every month
was a little uncomfortable! To further praise the Lord, the retro
benefit will be deposited to be my checking account in one lump sum.
She told me that amount, without the kids portions, and I was
astounded.....we will be able to catch up,get the new engine we need,
pay some the outstanding medical bills .oh just praise praise the
Lord!!!!! F
so, the lady who gave me the first info was correct, it was I who got
the name of it muddled I guess

Fibromyalgia pain
April 3, 2006
Advanced Natural Medicine Bulletin
**********************************
Dear Friend,

Imagine suffering from intense pain pain that wasnt limited to just one area, but encompassed your whole body. Imagine waking up in the morning so exhausted that you just cant function. Now, imagine your doctor telling you that everything is fine and that its all in your head.

Thats what my friend Margaret went through after she had been involved in an automobile accident. All told, she saw 37 doctors and underwent more x-rays and blood tests than she could count. But the message was always the same theres nothing wrong with you.

Margaret was about to give up when I suggested that she see a friend of mine an integrative physician that specializes in autoimmune conditions. After just one visit, during which she told the doctor about her symptoms and underwent a physical exam which included checking for tender points, Margaret had her diagnosis fibromyalgia.

For decades, doctors didnt believe fibromyalgia was real a lot of them still dont largely because there isnt any physical evidence. Blood tests dont reveal a disease or infection. X-rays wont show an injury, worn joints or pinched nerves. So, without a smoking gun, they came to the conclusion that the problem was purely psychological which wasnt much of a leap for these predominantly male doctors since fibromyalgia affects mainly women. And, since medical science has historically considered women second-class citizens, its no surprise that most doctors figured that these were simply crazy women starved for attention.

But if you suffer from fibromyalgia, you know its all too real your muscles and joints ache and burn, youre drained of energy, you cant concentrate and getting a good nights sleep is next to impossible. In other words, you feel like youve been run over by a Mack truck. If that werent enough, many people with fibromyalgia also suffer from other symptoms as well, including irritable bowel syndrome, migraines, jaw pain and chemical sensitivities.

But the most debilitating aspect of fibromyalgia is the pain. In fibromyalgia, sensory messages to the brain are intensified, making even a warm bubble bath feel like torture.

Finally, however, fibromyalgia sufferers may get some vindication. A study conducted at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research used Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to document the brain changes fibromyalgia patients experience during pain. Sixteen people with fibromyalgia and sixteen healthy volunteers subjected themselves to an MRI while researchers applied a small amount of pressure to their left thumbs. In the fibromyalgia group, blood rushed to areas of the brain involved in pain perception. But no changes were seen in the brains of the healthy volunteers. The researchers had to double the pressure on them to elicit the same response that they saw in the fibromyalgia group.

Other studies have found that people with fibromyalgia have three times more of a pain-transmitting chemical called substance P in their spinal fluid and too little of the pain-reducing neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine.

But, while its nice to have proof that you really are sick, for patients now struggling with debilitating symptoms, its not much comfort.

When it comes to relieving the pain and fatigue that mark fibromyalgia, conventional medicine doesnt have a lot to offer. Treatment commonly involves antidepressants like Prozac or Zoloft to diminish the pain and improve sleep. Many doctors also suggest using an over-the-counter NSAID like aspirin or ibuprofen. But a double-blind trial didnt find any difference between ibuprofen and a placebo for treating fibromyalgia.

So its no surprise that many people have turned to alternative treatments often with great success. But, since fibromyalgia can bring on different symptoms in different people, finding the right treatment often involves some trial and error.

Since serotonin levels are low in people with fibromyalgia, 5-HTP may help to increase this critical neurotransmitter. 5-HTP is a serotonin precursor that is absorbed by the brain and quickly converted into serotonin. The result is a reduction in depression, insomnia and pain. In two 50-patient trials, researchers gave patients 100 mg. of 5-HTP three times a day. As a result, most of the subjects experienced a 50 percent reduction in all symptoms measured. In fact, the 5-HTP was so effective that the study participants retained the benefits for up to 90 days after treatment.

A combination of magnesium and malic acid may also offer relief from pain and fatigue. In one study, researchers from the University of Texas studied the effects of magnesium and malic acid on 24 fibromyalgia subjects who were enrolled in a placebo-controlled four-week trial. Each patient received three tablets that contained 200 mg. of malic acid and 50 mg. of magnesium twice a day. At the end of the trial, no significant improvement was noted. However, during a follow-up six-month open trial with doubled doses (six tablets, twice daily), researchers noted a significant reduction in pain and tenderness, plus improved psychological scores.

One popular remedy to clear the mental fuzziness that often accompanies flare-ups is CoQ10. In one study, British physician Robert Lister used a combination of CoQ10 and ginkgo biloba to treat 25 people with fibromyalgia. Dr. Lister asked the subject to take the combo (200 mg. of CoQ10 and 200 mg. of ginkgo) for 84 days. Clinical changes were recorded with a questionnaire designed to track fibromyalgia symptoms. Throughout the study, 64 percent of the participants experienced a progressive and significant improvement in their quality of life.

While supplements can help relieve some symptoms, real relief requires a whole body approach. A vegan diet (no meat or dairy) that is also low in salt may help. In a controlled clinical trial, women with fibromyalgia were put on a special diet consisting only of raw foods - fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes and cereals. The diet also contained several fermented foods, including a fermented yogurt-food made from oats, a fermented beverage made from wheat berries (called Rejuvalac) and several types of fermented vegetables, particularly cabbage. During the three-month trial, the women following the therapeutic diet experienced a significant reduction in body weight, pain, the use of painkillers, depression and the number of sore fibromyalgia points, compared with those who continued to eat their regular diet.

But, even if you dont go the vegan route, its important to avoid refined foods like sugar and white flour, food additives like aspartame and MSG, and caffeine. Not only are they devoid of nutrients, these foods can actually make conditions worse.

There have also been reports that regular low-intensity exercise can improve fibromyalgia symptoms. In one controlled trial, a program consisting of two 25-minute exercise classes plus two educational sessions per week for six weeks resulted in an immediate and sustained improvement in walking distance, fatigue, and well-being in a group of people with fibromyalgia. But the participants didnt experience a reduction in pain, anxiety or depression.

A lot of fibromyalgia patients Ive talked to admit that exercise is one of the hardest recommendations to follow mainly because of the pain and lack of energy. But, there just might be an easier way. In a more recent controlled trial, a 35-minute exercise program in a warm pool once a week for six months led to improvements in hand-grip strength and endurance, as well as a reductions in pain, distress, depression and anxiety. Exercising in water provides all the benefits of a normal exercise routine without putting pressure on your joints and muscles. Unless your fibromyalgia is so severe that even water hurts, this is a terrific way to exercise. And classes are widely available. Check with your local community center or health club to find an underwater exercise program in your area.

Food For Thought

2008-06-15 13:45:48

This comes from the book Conversations with God Book One. Read it or
don't read it, believe it or don't believe it. It is my truth but it
does not have to be yours.
Question: How does God talk and to whom?
Answer: First, let's exchange the word talk with the word
communicate. It's a much better word, a much fuller, more accurate
one. When we try to speak to each other-Me to you, you to Me. we are
immediately constricted by the unbelievable limitation of words. For
this reason, I do not communicate by words alone. In fact, rarely do I
do so.My most common form of communication is through feeling.
Feeling is the language of the soul.
If you want to know what's true for you about something, look to how
you are feeling about it.
Feelings are sometimes difficult to discover and often even more
difficult to acknowledge. Yet hidden in your deepest feelings is your
highest truth. The trick is to get to those feelings. I will show you
how. Again. If you wish.

HELLO DEANNA
MY NAME IS KATHY. I HAVE RSD FOR THE PAST 22 YEARS. I CURRENTLY HAVE IT
SEVERELY IN MY LEFT FOOT AND ANKLE. THE PAIN IS AGONIZING. IT IS COMPARED TO
BONE CANCER ON THE PAIN SCALES. I NEED TO DECIDE IF I SHOULD GET A BTK
AMPUTATION DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE RSD. I NEED TO DECIDE IF IT IS WORTH THE
RISK OF SPREADING TO DO IT OR NOT. I HAD THIS STIM IMPLANTED ALMOST 6 YEARS
AGO. SADLY, IT DID NOTHING AT ALL FOR MY PAIN. I HAD ONE ABOUT 14 YEARS AGO
WHIHC MADE A SEVERE CHANGE IN MY RIGHT WRIST AND HAND...IT WAS LIKE NIGHT AND
DAY.
CURRENTLY, MY STIM IS NOT WORKING AT ALL. I DO NOT HAVE IT ON ALL THE TIME
SINCE I DO NOT GET ANY RELIEF FROM IT, SO I DIDN'T HAVE IT TURNED ON FOR A
WHILE.
I WENT TO TRY IT AGAIN....BUT NOTHING WORKED! I CAN'T TURN IT ONE WITH
MAGNET OR MACHINE. I REALLY DOUBT THAT THE INTERNAL BATTERY IS RUN OUT OF
JUICE,
SINCE I HAVEN'T HAD IT ON CONSISTENTLY NOW FOR SIX YEARS.
ANY IDEAS??
THANKS!

How is everyone? /what happened today/bible study thoughts

2008-06-14 19:34:30

hello agian!
How are you? I'd like to to know how you are each doing, either on
list or off if you wish. If you have prayer requests or something you
think you would like to see a bible study on?
well, ladies, I made it through a very tough day, with the Lord's help
and I feel I am one step closer to acknowledging and dealing with some
of these memories. I spent hours on the phone and at the crisis
clinic. It was a rather surreal experience. By the time Rob was home
and could take me, I probably didn't need to go, and could have (and
probably should have) just made an appt with a therapist. But, I saw
people who were in much worse shape than me, I think the Lord used it
as a reminder of what I have to be thankful for. Although I looked as
alone as the others, I had Jesus right there with me, and a supportive
hubby in the waiting room. If I had needed to be hospitalized, they
would have had to send me over 300 miles away, because their
facilities are all full up here. I wasn't suicidal, although I couold
have been earlier if the desperation had gotten much worse. I've never
planned a suicide, never written a note or anything, but the few times
I have attempted to harm myself were impulsive out of sheer
desperation to distract myself from the emotional pain. Through all
this I feel the Lord working on me, on my pride and my trust in Him
and in my husband. I have made a conscious decision to remember and
to deal with and hand all these over to the Lord.
For the first time, maybe ever, Tuesday night Rob and I went to a home
bible study. We are changing churches and we never have gone to one
before. It was on worship.....there were a few mentions that really
struck me as relevent. One is that the only power behind a secret is
that it is secret. Take away the secretiveness and you remove the
source of power. Once it is out Satan cannot use it to manipulate you
or use it against you. That actually was from earlier in the day when
the pastor visited us at our home. In the evening, we spoke of
keeping on eyes on the Lord at all times, keeping him the focus while
we worship, work, whatever we do, we keep our eyes on him. The fact
that while the journey may not be pleasant, that if we keep our eyes
fixed on him, he will give us joy and reward our diligence. Ladies, I
begin a painful journey, I pray that it will not be a long one, and I
rejoice in the fact that I know the Lord will not leave my side and
when I become weary, he will carry me and we will be victorious over
this long standing familial curse.
I'll keep you all posted

SSI/ psyche appt. aftermath/ repressed memories/blessing at the end

2008-06-14 08:02:39

whoooowhewwwwwwww! Am I ever sorry I mentioned figures....what I get
for not thinking first! So, I am just going to leave it in God's
hands, if I get anything...praise the Lord!!!!!
so, subject is formally squashed and dead now. :-)
Please continue to keep me in your prayers......ever since that appt.
I have been an emotional mess. There are a lot of undeveloped
polaroid photos of memories swirling in my head making me crazy. It's
kinda like when you are ready to go to sleep, but the 'committee' in
your head won't shut up! You can't stop thinking aobut something that
is going on, or coming up, or happening. If I stop a moment, they
start to come into focus (the memories) but then I panic, and distract
myself. I am getting very dizzy! :-) I caught a whiff of some smell
that sent me into a panic attack two nights ago. As I lied there
huddled in a ball, sobbing like a infant (probably a pre-verbal
memory....) I tell you all, I heard his footsteps. It was like it was
happening right then, I was terrified! I couldn't sleep, because I
felt I had to 'keep watch and be alert'.... A few nights before
that, my hubby mentioned 'hanging on, like a pit bull' and I FREAKED!
So, now I remember that he ( my mother's father) raised pit bulls.
I'm sure there is more to the memory than that, and more to remember
than just that fact.......I dread nighttime. I don't want to remember
anymore. I only remember a few small incidents, those have come to me
in the past few years......there is still almost 16 years of
'memories' (read nightmares) missing. I don't want them to surface,
but I don't think I can keep them repressed too much longer. Shoot, I
didn't even know they were repressed until 3 years ago. But, I don't
think I can keep them swirling fast enough, or much longer to keep
them blurry.
We met with the pastor of what will probably my our new church
yesterday....he made a remark in relation to some other subject...but
generally speaking it was that ......once whatever Satan is using
against us comes out, he can't use it anymore. The power behind any
secret is that it is secret. I know (during sane moments, or momets
of rational thoughts) that if I keep my focus of the Lord, walk
straight to Him, even through this horrible mess, that once I get
through it, He can heal me. But, the reality is, that when I sense a
memory coming to me, I panic. My terror button gets stuck on 'ON"...
then there is nothing rational. It is almost as though I am reliving
each moment. Oh it is horrible. During rational moments, I am also
worried that during an irrational moment, in sheer desperation to be
free of the panic and terror that I will hurt my self or worse. I have
been able to stay clear of self-mutiliation thus far in this crisis,
my last suicidal thoughts were about 2 weeks before Christmas (my last
attempt was 2 weeks before Christmas in 1998.....always a week before
my birthday it seems that it is tough) I am really struggling....and
boy am I ever cranky and moody! I will be fine one moment, and snap
the next over something trivial. I need to get this done with so that
I can concentrate on helping my sons heal.
Here is the blessig part I spoke of......true to God's promise ( and
what else could He be?) I already see one aspect that he is using my
horrible icky past for good. My sons.....remember we just adopted
them, and they have also had horrible and icky things happen to them
as well. Not only can I relate to them, and to some extent
understand, I believe the Lord is giving me such a unique opportunity
to bond with them, by healing with them. I of course have a very
special relationship with my daughter, and an equally unique and
cherished one with my hubby. I love my boys as if they were my own,
but we have not had time or a way to really 'bond' in a special way.
But, because of the bad stuff, God is already using it for good, by
giving me sons that need a mom who can relate, understand and I truly
believe heal right along beside them. Please continue to pray for all
of us we travel through Egypt. We are going to be just fine, but only
by the grace of God go I!
I a very thankful that I have you wonderful ladies to turn
too....sometimes I need to 'talk' and you guys never interrupt me!
:-)
in Him, Christy

The Drug Problem In America

2008-06-13 18:56:11

The Drug Problem in America
The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question, ''Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?''
I replied: I had a drug problem when I was young:
I was drug to church on Sunday morning.

[INLINE]

[INLINE]

I was drug to church for weddings and funerals.

[INLINE]

[INLINE]

I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.

[INLINE]

[INLINE]

I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults.

[INLINE]

[INLINE]

I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did
not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.

[INLINE]

[INLINE]

I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profane four-letter word.

[INLINE]

[INLINE]

I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flower beds and cockleburs out of dad's fields.

[INLINE] [INLINE]

[INLINE]

I was drug to the homes of family, friends, and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood;

[INLINE] [INLINE]

[INLINE]

and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.

[INLINE]

[INLINE]
Those drugs are still in my veins; and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, and think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin; and, if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place.

Various programs

2008-06-13 18:11:19

I dont know if all the companies provide this feature or if all stimulators come
with them, but I found this helps me. My scs has the ability to have more than
one program so I have different programs for different activities. Also there
are different types of stimulation, like pulsing or really fast.
Like I have one for laying down, one for walking, one for all around help, and
one for severe pain days. I even did these things while being programmed. Yes, I
laid on the floor so I could get different relief when I am sleeping or resting.
When I am walking I have more pain on the right side and down the right leg, so
I have a program which is stronger on the right than on the left to help when I
am needing to walk. Different positions and activities cause different pain as
well as how and where the stimulator is working. Sometimes I need it
concentrated in my back and sometimes I just need general relief. 2 of my
programs are similiar except for the type of stimulation. One is more of a
pulsing feeling and one is a faster smoother sensation.
I know many people only use the scs when they are in severe pain and others like
me never turn it off unless they have too. I only turn mine off if its causing
me pain of some sort, other than those rare occasions I leave it on at all
times....I only change which program I am using and the intensity of the program
from low to high or anywhere in between.
Just a thought to check with your programmer if you have those options available
to you.

Leptospirosis-- VERY IMPORTANT PLEASE READ
This incident happened recently in North Texas.
A woman went boating one Sunday taking with her some cans of
coke which she put into the refrigerator of the boat On Monday
she was taken to the hospital and placed in the Intensive Care
Unit. She died on Wednesday.
The autopsy concluded she died of Leptospirosis. This was
traced to the can of coke she drank from, not using a glass.
Tests showed that the can was infected by dried rat urine and
hence the disease Leptospirosis.
Rat urine contains toxic and deathly substances. It is highly
recommended to thoroughly wash the upper part of soda cans
before drinking out of them. The cans are typically stocked in
warehouses
and transported straight to the shops without being cleaned.
A study at NYCU showed that the tops of soda cans are more
contaminated than public toilets (i.e).. full of germs and
bacteria. So wash them with water before putting them to the
mouth to avoid any kind of fatal accident.

HOW STUPID CAN THEY GET]

2008-06-12 16:36:12

I guess the only reason some people have to live is just to amuse or frustrate the rest of us.

How do these people survive?
ONE Recently, when I went to McDonald's I saw on the menu that you could have an order of 6, 9 or 12 Chicken McNuggets. I asked for a half dozen nuggets. "We don't have half dozen nuggets," said the teenager at the counter. "You don't?" I replied. "We only have six, nine, or twelve," was the reply. "So I can't order a half dozen nugget! s, but I can order six?" "That's right." So I shook my head and ordered six McNuggets
TWO I was checking out at the local Wal-Mart with just a few items and the lady behind me put her things on the belt close to mine. I picked up one of those "dividers" that they keep by the cash register and placed it between our things so they wouldn't get mixed. After ! the gir l had scanned all of my items, she picked up the "divider", looking it all over for the bar code so she could scan it. Not finding the bar code she said to me, "Do you know how much this is ?" I said to her "I've changed my mind, I don't think I'll buy that today." She said "OK," and I paid her for the things and left. She had no clue to what had just happened.
THREE A lady at work was seen putting a credit card into her floppy drive and pull! ing it out very quickly. When I inquired as to what she was doing, she said she was shopping on the Internet and they kept asking for a credit card number, so she was using the ATM "thingy."
FOUR I recently saw a distraught young lady weeping beside her car. "Do you need some help?" I asked. She replied, "I knew I should have replaced the battery to this remote door unlocker. Now I can't get into my car. Do you think they (pointing to a distant convenience store) would have a bat tery to fit this?" "Hmmm, I dunno. Do you have an alarm, too?" I asked. "No, just this remote thingy," she answered, handing it and the car keys to me. As I took the key and manually unlocked the door, I replied, "Why don't you drive over there and check about the batteries. It's a long walk."
FIVE Several years ago, we had an Intern who was none too swift. One day she was typing and turned to a secretary and said, "I'm almost out of typing paper. What do I do?" "Just use copier machine paper," the secretary told her. With that, the intern took her last remaining blank piece of paper, put it on the photocopier and proceeded to make five "blank" copies.
SIX A mother calls 911 very worried asking the dispatcher if she needs to take her kid to the emergency room, the kid was eating ants. The dispatcher tells her to give the kid some Benadryl and should be fine, the mother says, I just gave him some ant killer..... Dispatcher: Rush him in to emergency!
Life is tough...
it's tougher if you're stupid.

oh YES!!!!! I remember, the initials were a little different! I bet that is
it...that must be based on your income before you became ill? That is what it
sounded like to me......if it were a standard amount, she wouldn't need my
social security number to figure it out, would she? I feel like such a dork,
because this or these illnesses affect my brain and make me feel very forgetful
and downright stupid at times! I get all muddle headed. Just another one of
those 'pride' things He is working with me on..or working on me with, depending
on the point of view.
I was typing an intro today for another elist, and I realize I still want to
introduce me as before.....because I guess I really liked talking about my
'career' and being a workingmom.. I did love what I did, and I tried hard to be
good at it, and I truly believe I made a difference in some lives, especially
where low vision needs were concerned. I do miss it. But, I think I really
miss telling people what I 'did'. I thought only guys got caught up in that
'you are what you do' thing. Guess not.
What is REALLY ironic I think, is that when I was well enough and working, I
wanted to be home and do all the domestic things and crafty things...all day
long! Now I am home all the time, but am too sick most of the time to do much
of anything! NOT how I had imagined it to be, let me tell you! I was going to
a very clean house......fresh muffins every morning, fresh squeezed orange
juice, I was going to really CARE what my fabric softener smelt like, and was
not going to have a dust bunny among us!. Martha Stewart move over! I really
think the Lord wanted me to see what was really important...
I think once we get through these tough times our marriage will be better than
ever. It is not easy for me to lose my independence, financial or otherwise. I
have a hard time relying on him and trusting him to do it or anything as well as
I could've (doesn't that sound prideful? ) but I am learning to lean on Rob, and
I can really see how this is boosting his testosterone level! He was scared to
death at first about being the head of the household......but, it gives him a
sense of importance I don't think he had before. He also like me to need to
him, just a little bit. He carries himself a bit taller now, and I guess I can
understand it, if I try to think like a man (eeeeekkkkksssss!!!!)
:-)
thank you for the input, that helps some.

Inquiry finds city workers sent inappropriate e-mails

MESA - Pornography, racial slurs and steamy love letters were among the hundreds of e-mails sent by city employees during Mesa's investigation into abuses of its computer policy, an Arizona Republic review found.
Also included were jokes, pictures or suggestive cartoons about Mormons, transvestites, gays, Hispanics and Blacks.
A parallel investigation into e-mail and Internet misuse by Police Department employees could be completed in two weeks, City Attorney Debbie Spinner said.
Nearly 230 employees have received disciplinary action so far, ranging from written reprimands to 240-hour unpaid suspensions. Counseling has also been recommended for some employees who sent sexually suggestive e-mails.
The scope of the city's investigation widened last fall, after an employee made a sexual-harassment complaint.
Some employees still have a chance to appeal their cases, Spinner said. Most of the incidents involve lower-level employees and the Republic is withholding their names.
"This is an embarrassment to the city and it is inappropriate," City Manager Chris Brady said. "As city employees, we are held to a high standard."
Under the city's old e-mail policy, supervisors were not allowed to randomly monitor employee e-mails, making it harder to enforce, Brady said.
Today, Mesa rolls out a tougher policy and all employees are required to sign a paper verifying they understand the new rules.
