Re: [Stimulator] I'm New as Well
2008-05-31 20:34:09Brent,
My name is Deanna and my injury is a torn disc at L5-S1. I tried so many
procedures and medications...I feel I could write a book (although I am sure
that I still have much to learn). I received no relief and the pain just kept
getting worse. The stimulator is the only think I have had done that provided
some help and hope.
I had my 2nd implant on July 18, 2007, then had the leads adjusted January 16,
2008, and finally received new programming February 22, 2008. Workers Comp took
forever to take care of business (1st implant took over 1 1/2 years for
approval) and getting a technician to adjust my programs wasnt exactly quick
either. Anyways, the difference from Feb. 21 to Feb. 23 were like night and day.
Yes, I still have pain....but I went walking this weekend, rode in a car for
more than across town, and even cooked dinner (these are huge for me).
My husband has said he can see such a huge difference in my physical well
being but even more so in my mental and emotional attitudes as well as my
overall attitude. I used to be the most patient person I have ever known. I
worked with children and easily handled a room full of crying babies and
toddlers without so much as a second though to it, in fact I loved it. Lately
though I dont have the patience for my own kids even making noise, much less
someone else's. I have a very short fuse, am extrememly sensitive, and overly
emotional. I actually have had a couple of days where I finally didnt feel like
an emotional basket case.
I do wish you the best of luck in your healing process......
I hope it is much quicker for you!!!!!!!!

Today I am 2 weeks post-op for my implant. Had my trial in mid-Jan,
which went great (80%
pain relief) , so it was pretty easy to decide to go for the permanent implant.
My problem was due to failed back surgery (L5-S1) from 7 years ago, 5 years ago
I had
another MRI that showed scar tissue buildup that could not be surgically
corrected. Since
then I'd been on increasing doses of various prescription meds for the pain.
About a year ago I was referred to a Pain Management clinic to see if cortisone
injections
would help, had 6 or 7 of those without any real success.
I read about the SCS in Readers Digest, and talked with my Pain Dr. about it,
after meeting all
of the prerequisites, I was able to do the trial.
I'm now looking forward to getting off my pain meds, and am much more hopeful
about life!
ttfn,
Brent
