Hi, I hope everyone is doing well or well on their way to it.
I haven't been on the site since the week that I came home from the
hospital.(or close to it) I have been reading my digests and wanting
to comment on the posts, but I was only able to use my cell phone to
read. It wouldn't allow me to post, not sure why.
Ok so just a little recap. I had my Advanced Bionics stim perm.
implanted on Feb 17th, 2006. I had my dr place the unit on the left
side stomach. So I had two incisions to heal, the one on my back
healed wonderfully! The one on my stomach never healed. I called my
dr's office and went in on the same day. I saw one of the PA's. She
said it had moved and that I needed a revision. She called my dr(who
was on spring break and out of the state-Of course I this would happen
while he was gone!) He called another dr who he used to work with, who
I saw the next day. LOL I had a speech all worked out in my head that
I was going to tell Dr.I. "I'll just wait until Dr. B comes back on
Monday"(this was thursday) There wasn't going to be any waiting. He
sent me straight to the hospital to get my picc line put in. I had
just enough time to call my parents, a few other friends/family
members, call dr b's office and to call my Advanced Bio rep. By the
time my picc line was in, I went straight to Outpaitent Surgery to get
prepped for surgery. My rep met me there,(which calmed me down a good
bit..things were happening way too fast for me to process it.) I
didn't know the whole thing -the leads and the unit in my side were
going to be pulled. All along I kept telling myself that it would be
ok because just the unit was going, not the whole thing that had given
me such a difference in pain relief. In the short time from Feb 17th
to March 23rd I had gone from 80mg of oxycontin to 30mg of oxycodone!
The pain from the surgery itself wasnt all that bad. Both times, don't
get me wrong it was no walk in the park......but it was bearable.
So the day after having the stim pulled I go back to dr I to have a
wound check, OMG that was bad! That was on friday, monday I went back
to my dr's office I saw the PA again she packed the gapping whole in
my side and told me to come back the next day. Tuesday I went back, my
dr was there that day, he wasn't all smiles and jokes like he normally
is. Got the wound packed, told to come back on thursday. Go back on
thursday, not hurting that bad....or I should say the wound wasnt
hurting that bad, the everyday @*(#&(*@ pain was back with a vengence!
Got packed again, told to come back on friday. I get home, and wasn't
there for more than an hour and I get a phone call saying dr. B and
the two PA's think it would be a good idea for me to go into the
hospital starting today(thursday). Wasn't too happy about it at all,
but if it means getting the wound care doctors who could get this
whole healed and get me on my way to getting my stim back I would do
anything. So I went into the hospital on the 30th thru the 3rd of
april. During my stay I saw infectious diease and wound care doctors.I
got a machine hooked up to my wound called a WoundVac. It applies
negative pressure to a wound which in turn makes it heal quicker. On
the 24th of April, my wound care dr dc'ed the vac. I was packing my
wound twice a day everyday this last week, but today it was changed to
me dressing the wound just once a day with betadine dressing.
I was greatful to have the WoundVac, but I don't ever, ever have to
have to use it again!
For now I am back on all my pain meds, along with all the others that
I never got the chance to dc. This last month my migraines have been
back worse than ever. Every stinkin day I have had a thumper, with
more than a few days it was so bad that any movement, any sound, any
anything set me off and staright to the ER for a shot in the butt.
We are shooting for June to have the stim implanted again. This time
I plan to have the unit placed in my back. For now I am keeping my
fingers crossed. I had about a 50% reduction in pain. Not constantly,
but enough to start DCing meds.
Here's a big plate of brownies and a big glass of milk for ya if you
made it this far!

Bionics and the results

2007-11-29 23:24:29

Guys,
I have posted before, i though i would give a update, i had the full
deal put in after the trial, during the trial, the doc could only get
in the right side, which was good as a result, i had very little pain
on right side, but still had pain on left side, for information
again, i have had 2 wrecks and 2 operation, first one in 1984 L5
partial removal, 2002 another wreck ,fused L4 L5 S1 about $80,000
bucks, 1 year after last surgery scar tissue built up and started to
cause numbness and pain in my feet, it got to the point i tried to
take my life, because pain medicine by mouth caused my stomach to
bleed,
So her i am now 5 weeks after 2nd surgery and i still have some
pain, about 50% less, but still can't live with it, my only option at
this point is to either take my life or stay on these Fentanl patches
which provide the needed pain releif, but also give me terrible side
affects, i can't afford to go back at this point not knowing what the
result will be because i need to get back to work to support myself
and daughter, my x-wife to be, put me $10,000 in debt during the last
year, i can't file bankrupcy, i must keep going some how,
So now that i am 65, i checked today with medicare and the cost of
the patches are within reach of my budget if i cut down on food, but
how long can one use Fentanyl Patches Thanks for all The help Ron

Hey guys,
I just found out that I have a problem with the electrical system in my
heart!! Scary. I went to my regular Dr. today. They are sending me
to a cardiologist to find out what is wrong. I'm scared. I'm hoping
it's nothing really bad but they couldn't tell me anything today so I
don't know what is doing it.
Sucks having things go wrong all the time. There hasn't been a year
that has gone by that something didn't happen. Well...I'm bummed. Will
find out soon I guess. I'll let you guys know when I know.
Thanks for listening.

Turning the stimulator off

2007-11-29 09:02:56

Hi all
In response to queries raised about whether we have to turn the
stimulator off, I thought I would let you all know about my experiences.
I have given up going through airport security now, even with the
stimulator off it always beeps. I get there, take off my shoes. Put
everything into a container, send through my back rest and my walking
stick and show them my card saying I have an implanted device. They
always first think it is a pacemaker and then get really confused when I
tell them where the metallic bits are located. But they take the
discussion no further and allow me to walk through the side way (no
scanning) and pat me down (always nicely and always women - sorry guys,
I think you get men to pat you down). Do others do this too?
I haven't had any problems walking through shop security and so have
given up turning it off - has anyone experienced any problems in this area?
And re driving, I have been told that the company has to tell us that we
are not allowed to drive with the stimulator on - something to do with
*their* insurance. But when I asked the question if they know of any
passenger having ever experienced sudden changes in intensity (the
reason for why we are not allowed to have it on), the answer I was given
was "never".
Driving significantly aggravates my pain so I am in a difficult situation.
Have a great day all
warm wishes
Julie

Re: Service Dog

2007-11-28 20:29:26

There are service dogs for all kinds of disabilities. She helps with
all kinds of things as I said. She picks things up, takes the
laundry out of the dryer, pulls the bed sheets over, helps me get out
of bed, helps push open heavy doors, helps me keep my balance and
some other stuff. She could pull a wheelchair if I needed her too
also. I trained her because I didn't want to wait for one and I
trained dogs when I was younger so it didn't bother me to do that and
I was a little better back then. She is 5 years old now. She's
great to have. If anyone wants info about service dogs let me know
and I'll direct you there.

Hi - he can be the head but you can be the neck and
decide which way the head turns - LOL
Seriously though, I wish my husband would recognise
that he should be the head of the home. I think many
people battle with the S-word - SUBMISSION!
People thinks that it means being the doormat, but
getting into the root of the word shows that it
actually means the way that the husband is the head,
and treats his wife properly, brings on that correct
attitude!

the point that I am considered completely disabled. I never knew such
pain existed until recently. I can't stand or walk for more than 5

I look forward to communicating with others who can understand my

is to pray for each other, encourage each other, and lift each other

hi all
first, I am cross posting, please do not reply to ALL
Went to the ER last night, after being sleep depraived for 3-4 day. A few
restless dozes, but nothing significant.
Hand taken my pain meds, and my sleep meds each night....finally added another
something. My husband said I slept so sound, (and wasn't snoring) that he
actually took my pulse a couple of times to make sure I was still there. I woke
up so ready to go since I had gotten a little sleep, wanted to go blackberry
picking, but I should have listened to Rob and stayed in bed. My back is now
spasmimng up and down my spine, my arms, my neck has knots..... and am on the
edge of tears again. So, back I go to bed, to try to rest as I am exhausted all
over again. Please pray for continued restful sleep for me....this has put a
big strain on my marriage. Please also pray for Rob and my kids....I think I
may have even been a bit ...well, irritable after sleep depravation of 4 days.
So, I am being ordered by my body to go to bed...probably won't be back for a
few days.
Love to all

Hi Christy, I am praying for you on this one and I struggle with a similar
issue. Before I got remarried I was dating a man who was Godly, had a good job,
respected me and told me from the start we would not be having sex unless &
until we got married, led me back to the Lord and into the baptism of the Holy
Spirit, but was not making good choices for his own life. I knew I could not
submit to him so I ended the relationship. God led me to someone else & I got
married. He was obviously God's choice but sometimes he makes wrong choices
too. It has been a struggle these 4 years but things are starting to look up
for us. He does not try to assert himself as spiritual leader of our family and
I wish he would. Two years ago I knew God was leading me back to the Lutheran
church (we were non denominational). My husband has never been happy with that
decision and he did not join the church with me. I believe it is his
stubbornness that is a problem since I feel God was leading all of us--but now I
see I should have waited for God to lead my husband. It's hard to wait when he
is not very spiritually inclined, however. He takes no initiative to have
family Bible study or pray with me. It's a constant struggle for me internally.
I hope & pray your struggle is resolved soon.
P.S. It was "danger, Will Robinson" :) My favorite show! LOL

questions people are having about the stimulator and vagus nerve

2007-11-23 18:03:16

Hi Everyone I know that from what I was told they say people can get
50% pain relief that is true only some get that and have to stay on
some meds but not all. I have been blessed I am not on any pain meds
and pain free I have 100% with my low back and legs pain and numbness
free. I have nerve damage from a teathered spinal cord I am very
blessed that the Medtronic system that I have had in me for almost two
years come friday has been a great success.
As for the vagus nerve stimulator I have only known that for epilpsy
cause I have been testes to see if I could have it since I am
epiliptic. It would have to be new for the depression I know that
medtronics does it you might want to look on there website and call
someone from that company.

Re: Getting over the feeling

2007-11-22 15:40:33

Hope have you ever thought of just having the test done so that you
can see if it will work for you or not??? You don't HAVE to have the
perm. one put in if you don't want it. I had my test one in for 3
days. Yes the surgery part hurt but it was worth finding out that it
helped a lot!!! I'm really scared too, well not as much as I was,
thanks to the people here. I'm also on a lot of meds and hope to be
able to cut down on some of them by having the scs in. I don't know
if I'll be able to get off of any, but I'll have to see. Maybe yes
and that would be good too. I have tried all kinds of meds to help
with the pain and some I can't take because of really weird side
effects like gabitril, topamax, nuerontin and the new one Lyrica. I
would find myself sleep walking or wake up on the floor of my bedroom
or in the bathroom. I would eat at night and not remember or other
strange things. It messed me up. I can't really go any higher with
my pain meds either soooo the scs is the next step or the internal
medication pump. I figured I would try this first rather than
another medication route.
The tingling didn't really take getting "used" to, it was just a
different feeling other than the pain. Most of the time I had my
trial one turned down so that I really didn't feel much of anything,
but it was still working on the pain.
The vagus nerve thing I have heard of but not a lot. Isn't that a
new thing?? I don't think it's being done a lot yet, is it??? I
would be interested in finding out more from people who had it by

Re: [lifelineforrsders] (unknown)/Lynn

Hi Lynn,

I have had surgery since RSD and my surgeon has worked with my RSD DR about what I needed. I have it mainly upper body and I got an SG block prior to surgery and that helped prevent spreading...its not a guarentee. I think you have to weigh the pros and cons. I know making the decision to have surgery is never an easy one.

hello Christy,
thank you for the prayer request! My back still hurts and I now have
intense pain and burning in my legs but I don't have the money to go to the
doctor so I have to deal with it for now and pray that God will ease the
pain some!

a few prayer requests for members of our list

2007-11-22 03:57:57

hello everyone....
I have a few prayer requests to make on behalf of our members.
Deanna, is struggling big time right now with the emotional side of having a
chronic illness. Please keep her in your prayers, and if anyone wishes to
contact her (or anyone else for that matter) privately, they may do so by going
to their 'My egroups' page, and clicking on members. There is a list of members
name and emails addys.
And Sheila, besides her 'normal' pain, is suffering with a back problem brought
on by a playful young son.... I spoke to her hubby last night and he had stayed
home from work to take care of her and the kids as she was couch-ridden.
I feel a need to request prayer for Lois, but I haven't 'spoken' to her lately.
The need was just pressed upon my heart.
And for me, please. I am struggling mightily with a husband issue. The Lord is
convicting me to allow Rob to be (more of) the spiritual head of the household,
but I am having trouble trusting in him. I realize it is not really Rob, but
God that I should be trusting ....but I am fighting the human response...the
'danger, will smith' warning that goes off after you have been let down so many
times.
love to you all

Pleased to Meet You!

2007-11-21 12:28:54

Hi, everybody!
I'm a brand new member of the group, and stopped in to introduce myself.
My name is Fran. I live in Florida. I feel very (perhaps too) qualified to
be a member, since I suffer from Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, Fibromyalgia,
Degenerative Disc Disease, Sjogren's Syndrome, and a myriad of problems that
go with each. It reminds me of a quote I heard today attributed to Mother
Teresa: "God doesn't give me more than I can handle. I just wish He didn't
trust me so much!"
I look forward to meeting each of you, and contributing support as well as
receiving some.
Gentle Hugs,
Fran

Re: [Stimulator] Getting over the feeling

2007-11-20 02:29:04

Hope,
All the questions and concerns you have are absolutely valid and very good to
ask. I will try to help in any way possible.
As far as the feeling from the SCS, I found the sensation to be odd when I did
my trial. It wasn't really hard to get used to once I had the implant (Feb. 27,
2006). When you find your "happy" setting as I call it, you get used to and
some times you have to move in order to make sure it's still on. I've had to do
this many times. For me, the SCS has helped approximately 20-25%. Is it worth
it ? Yes. It does make a difference even if not a lot. I have not been able
to reduce my neurontin nor my amitryptaline. I have tried reducing the
Neurontin (I take 3600mg a day) but I get a burning in my up exterior thigh that
isn't usually there when I take the full amount. I am hoping that eventually I
will be able to reduce it. As far as sleeping and it keeping me up... yes that
did take some getting used to. Placement of the battery/receiver unit also
plays a big part (for me) as to getting comfortable to sleep. They had to put
my unit in my upper buttock so it took time not to have a lot of pain and
burning around the unit. I still have a little burning/pain if I roll over on
it but that has significantly reduced it.
How to describe the feeling... well I think it's different for everyone. But
for me it's like electricity tingling. Almost like if you have ever had a pager
or cell phone that vibrates... it's similar to that.
I would be interested in hearing more about the two medications you mentioned.
Feel free to contact me directly at purplebutterfly1@... if you ever
wanted to.
It is a difficult thing to go through as far as depression, isolation,
self-worth etc. I have found I got a lot of information (I surprised my surgeon
with what I knew) that I have received from all these wonderful people.
Take care and I hope this helps even a little.
Make It a Great Day!
Denise (Massachusetts)

Hi My name is Holly some of you know me as the moderator and still am I
have been with this group since 2002. I know alot of you are expericing
diffferent things with your stimulator or thinking of getting one. I
have had five surgeries come friday it will be two years having the
stimulator. I was blessed that my 5th one was a success the other ones
were ans I had problems from sliped leads to revisions to having a
single paddle lead put in to were the lead was fine but the stimulator
wasn't giving out anything. So I can understand the fears the
frustrations that alot of you are facing. If you want to contact me
through private email that would be the best. I am not always able to
get to a computer I have the internet on my cell phone but limited to
things that I have access to. I use the library to get the messages
approved. If you try to post thursday I won't get to it until saturday
cause my younger brother is graduating from BYU and I have family
activities. I am willing to help each of you the best that I can.
Thanks for putting up with me and your support.

9 Things I Hate About Everyone
1. People who point at their wrist while asking for the time...I know where my watch is pal, where the hell is yours? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the toilet is?
2. People who are willing to get off their ass to search the entire room for the tv remote because they refuse to walk to the tv and change the channel manually.
3./ SPAN
4. When people say "it's always t he last place you look". Of course it is. Why the hell would you keep looking after you've found it? Do people do this? Who and where are they? Gonna Kick their asses!
5. When people say while watching a film "did you see that?". No Loser, I paid $12 to come to the cinema and stare at the damn floor.
6. People who ask "Can I ask you a question?".... Didn't really give me a choice there, did ya sunshine?
7. When something is 'new and improved!'. Which is it? If it's new, then there has never been anything before it. If it's an improvement, then there must have been something before it, couldn't be new.
8. When people say "life is short". What the hell?? Life is the longest damn thing anyone ever does!! What can you do that's longer?
9. When you are waiting for the bus and someone asks "Has the bus come yet?". If the bus ca me would I be standing here, dumbass?

Fw: If you had one of these, you'll understand

2007-11-17 12:07:39

House Behind The House
One of my fondest memories
As I recall the days of yore...
Was the little house, behind the house,
With the crescent o'er the door.
'Twas a place to sit and ponder
With your head all bowed down low;
Knowing that you wouldn't be there...
If you didn't have to go.
Ours was a multi-holer...three.
With a size for every one.
You left there feeling better,
After your job was done.
You had to make those frequent trips
In snow, rain, sleet, or fog--
To that little house where you usually
Found the Sears-Roebuck catalog.
Oft times in dead of winter,
The seat was spread with snow.
Twas then with much reluctance,
To that little house you'd go.
With a swish you'd clear that wooden seat,
Bend low, with dreadful fear.
You'd shut your eyes and grit your teeth...
As you settled on your rear.
I recall the day Ol' Granddad...
Who stayed with us one summer...
Made a trip out to that little house
Which proved to be a bummer.
'Twas the same day that my Dad
Finished painting the kitchen green.
He'd just cleaned up the mess he'd made
With rags and gasoline.
He tossed those rags down in the hole
And went on his usual way...
Not thinking that by doing so...
He'd eventually rue the day.
Now Granddad had an urgent call...
I never will forget!
That trip he made to the little house...
Stays in my memory even yet.
He sat down on the wooden seat,
With both feet on the floor.
He filled his pipe... tamped it down...
And struck a match on the outhouse door.
He lit the pipe and sure enough,
It soon began to glow.
He slowly raised his rear a bit ...
And tossed the flaming match below.
The blast that followed, I am told...
Was heard for miles around;
And there was poor ol' Granddad
Sprawled out there on the ground.
The smoldering pipe still in his mouth...
His eyes were shut real tight.
The celebrated three-holer
Was blown clear out of sight.
We asked him what had happened,
What he said... I'll ne'er forget.
He said he thought it must have been
Those pinto beans that he'd et!
The next day, we had a new outhouse...
Dad put it up with ease.
But this one had a door sign that read:
"No Smoking, Please!"
Now that's the story's end, my friend...
Of memories long ago,
When we went out to the house behind the house...
Because we had to go.

Getting over the feeling

2007-11-17 04:08:17

My last post was Sept of 2005. I have been keeping up with the group and
the information exchange is invaluable. I still cannot bring myself to
agree to a SCS. I have notice that there is almost no discussion on
getting used to the feeling that the stimulator puts out. Did it take
long for most of you to get used to the feeling. Is it distracting? Keep
you up at night? A fairly new drug "Lyrica" has helped that horrible
sharp, tingling, stabbing, prickling pain in my toes and feet that wake
me up at night. The Provigal helps to keep me alert during the day and
additional pain and psych drugs fill in the gap. It would be wonderful
to ditch these drups. I have read that a lot of you experience approx.
20% pain relief. Am I correct? I know that any reduction in pain is
wonderful, so forgive me if this seems like a dumb question. To those of
you experiencing 20% reduction in pain-was implanting the SCS and in
some cases dealing with additional medical problems worth it?
I have also been told that I am a canidate for VNS therapy or Vagus
Nerve Stimulation. The principal is very similar to SCS, but placed in
the neck. This is for patients with chronic or recurrant
depression-something that plaques many of us with severe chronic
pain.IAnyone familar with this or has one?
I realize that I am asking a lot of questions. I appreciate all of you.
You are very special to take the time and share your problems and
victories.
Make it a GREAT day! Hope

This is from a friend of mine in Michigan. She has requested that I ask my
groups to please pray for her nephew. Sounds like he is in great need too.
Please read the following.
thanks,
Dorothy
I haven't mentioned my nephew with Crones disease. He is 33, and has been in
the hospital since last July 2nd when Mark and Patrick, my two sons had gone
south to
play golf with their cousins. He was one of the cousins, he got very sick and
left the
golf course and went to the hospital by himself. He was bleeding from his
mouth and rectum. It had happened before but never as bad. The rest of them
did not know why
he was leaving, he could have passed out on the way to the hospital. The pain
is very
bad. They sent him to Oak Ridge from out hometown hospital. He went home for a
couple of days and now they sent him to Vanderbilt in Nashville and I'm
pretty sure
it is to remove his intestines and attach a bag. I am sick over this. His
name is Tim
Huskins and he has two little girls he'd like to raise, God willing. Please
have him
included in your prayer group.

Oh Amy!!!! I feel sooooo bad for you. I'm sorry that the leads
slipped. Sounds awful. I do not have my perm. in yet, but I do have
some medication suggestion. If the dr. will let you try Actiq they
really help. They are like a lollipop. You kind of put them between
your check and gum and lightly suck on them and twirl it sometimes.
It takes about 15 min. to use the whole one, which I usually don't
need the whole one, but the pain relief it so fast. The med is
fentynl, but soooo different from the Duragestic patch because you
get it right into the blood thru your mouth. It can be expensive,
insurance doesn't usually cover the whole thing, if at all, but it is
worth it to have them.
Good luck with everything and please keep us posted. I'll say my
prayers for ya :)

Re: Bionic stimulator

2007-11-14 02:43:13

Hi Ron
My name is Bob,, I had a trial with the Bionic SCS, and it went
well. I suffer from chonic low back pain. The other SCS systems,
Medtronics and ANS, do not have a good history of stopping low back
pain but the Bionics model seems to work. It has something to do
with the design of the "leads" . I will have the permenent SCS
implanted in May, I am looking forward to some relief from this
constant pain. The technician that worked on mine had a lot of
trouble finding the right computer settings to block the pain, but
after several atttempts was successful in finding the correct
settings.
Maybe it will just take some time to find your sweet spot. If it
blocks it on one foot it should be able to block the other one.
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress

My name is Amy , a new member @ stimulator

2007-11-14 02:17:40

Hi everyone!
It was so wonderful when I found ya'll, and finally could talk to
someone that understood our pain. This has been such a horrible
experience for me(and all of you I'm sure). I have had alot of other
surgeries and problems in my years, but the pain of RSD just cannot
be described. It is unbelievable and so crippling it just takes my
breath away.
I went thru the trail for the stimulator and it seemed to help alot,
although they could not really pin point the exact places. They said
it would br better after the perm implant. Last Friday, the 14th I
had the perm implant surgery. I was in a lot of pain, but the stim
seemed to be doing great,Then on Sunday morning, justa day and a half
later, I turned on the remote, pressed the plus button, and it shot
all the way to full strenth. My leg was jerking off the bed and I
felt like I got electricuted. My husband tried it, because I thught
maybe I was doing something wrong, and the same thing happened. We
called the tech(even though it was Easter), she said she had not
ever seen that and needed to see me in person. Monday morning I got
up to get dressed for the appointment and fell getting out of bed.
My bad leg would not hold me and just buckled. Well, At the doctor's
they said the leads had started to slip on Sunday, that was why it
wasn't working properly, and the fall finished it off and yanked all
the wires down by the insition. On the xray it looked like a big
spider web around the base of my spine. No good!!. They have to redo
the surgery, re-wire it all, open both insitions and so forth. That
is scheduled for this Tuesday. I can barely lay back on a pillow, I
have a huge lump where all the wires are, and of course, my leg and
foot are on fire all over again.
Has this happened to any of you? Has anyone else's leads slipped?
They said they will try one more attempt and if they slip again,
they will have to get a surgeon to assist, chip off some of the bone
on my spine and screw in paddle leads. The doctor said "I don't want
to put you thru that if I don't have to". You know it is bad when
they say that !!!!
Please.... If any has had this happen, let me know. Or if anyone has
had to have the paddle leads screwed in , please get in touvh with
me. I am very frightened and in such incredible pain. They have me
taking morphine sulfate, lortab 10mg and soma350. I feel like a
zombie, And still, I'm in pain and frightened.
Please Help!

Bionic stimulator

2007-11-12 19:34:40

Anyone,
I recently had a Advanced Bionics Spinal Cord Stimultor implanted, has
any one else had one of these put in, the trial went great, they were
only able to get the right side in, i had pain (10) in both feet, the
trial cured most of the pain in the right foot, and the left foot was
still had pain, so we knew it was working, so we went ahead with the
full procedure, they were able to put both in while i was under, after
the full implant it failed to work completly, they tryed to reprogram
it several times, after about 2 weeks it started to work better, so now
we are going day by day to see if it totally works, the question is has
anyone on here gone through this same problem. Ron

Re: Wecome New Members and Hi to those that have been here a while

2007-11-11 23:16:31

Hi all
I can't believe I didn't find this group earlier. This is my first
post to the group. I had an ANS SCS implanted in December after a
successful trial in October. I was surprised to read that Holly had
four failed ANS attempts and would be very interested to hear why.
I am doing much better pain wise than I ever anticipated. But coming
off the medications I have been on for 6 years has been the biggest
problem I have had to deal with in that I am so nauseated all the time
to the point where I can't leave the house very often. I am trying to
work part time. I would love to hear if anyone else had this side
effect after coming off high dose anticonvulsants. I am hoping it
will pass soon.
warm wishes
Julie (from Australia)

No, you can not have an MRI. I have not been to the dentist but have heard that
you need to turn your unit off.
As far as a medical bracelet - yes, it is highly recommended that you get one
stating you have a stimulator. I have one that states Medtronic neurostimulator
implanted on the front of it. On the back of it I have see wallet card and
taking neurontin.

This is such a sincere and loving group. It is amazing what can
happen when you put a bunch of wonderful people together. I thank
you for your prayers, as I need many. You are all in my prayers. You
all remind me of my Grandma, she was the greatest Christian wife and
mother and Grandmother that I ever knew. I learned from her that if
I was besieged by problems that I should close my eyes and put each
problem, one by one, in a basket that was tied to a very bright
purple hot air ballon (purple was/is my favorite color), anyway once
that was done say good-bye and send them off to God. She was very
wise and I miss her all the time. But I learned so much from her.
Such as acceptance and Love for everyone. Well just wanted ya'll to
know one of my "secrets". As always

Hello Ruth
I am Denise from Montana. I have has my stimulator for about 6 yrs. now.
I know i can not have MRI. Unless things have changed with them asked your Dr.
to make sure. That's the chance i took to have one put in.
One thing i have learned about the dentist make sure you turn it off before
you go in. The stimulator intensifies while leaning back. They couldn't even
touch my teeth it hurt so bad.I shut it off and what a big difference. They
could do the work they needed to do.
Your other question sorry i can't help. My problems are different than yours.
I have RSD.
I hope some of this helps. Denise

Hi all I just joined the other day. I just had my stim trial and had
it taken out today. I'm really nervous about getting the permenant
implant. The trial pain was really bad and the leads were very
uncomfortable. They also told me that taking them out was no big
deal and it hurt like h... I know I'm very sensitive but I almost
passed out when they pulled the leads out.
I've been reading all the posts and I have a lot of questions. Could
I please call someone? It's not long distance for me to call
anyone. I really need to talk to someone other than the tech. She's
like a crazy talky person. Way "up" and she just motor mouths. I
don't really like her.
I've been in chronic pain for about 12 years. Have had about 5 back
surgeries and one neck cage fusion. I have failed low back,
degenerative disk disease, fibro, osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis and
nerve damage. I'm always in a lot of pain and the trial did help
quite a bit. I was pretty amazed, but reserved. I'm afraid to hope
that much. I've had so much trouble with stuff before.
Questions: Can you have an MRI with these in? If not then what do
you do about needing tests?
What about dental work?
Has anyone had major back surgery and a LOT of pain
during recovery, if yes how was the recovery for the scs?
What is this about medic alert braclet. I have one, but
would I need to have it engraved on it that I have a stim? I would
probably figure yes. That means paying for another braclet.
You all see what I mean, I have a ton of questions. Please help.
Thanks,
Ruth from Florida sending some sunshine to ya

Hi,
Has anyone out there has had a second lead inplant? I have one lead in
now for about 6 yrs now. The lead that i have has moved down to my
lower part of my back. To replace this one he has to cut in to my
back. I am a little worried about this. And do to the medications that
i am taking i am at the top. They can't give me anymore for pain. So
if i have this surgery done they can't give me strong enough pain
meds. to get me through this surgery.
Thank-you Denise

A Miracle of God????

One afternoon, a couple was traveling on the road when all of a sudden

new stimulator yesterday

2007-11-09 00:42:07

Hi I'm new here. I just got my test stim yesterday. The pain level of
my normal pain is way down, but the pain where the leads where put in
is pretty uncomfortable. I can't wait for those to come out, but I
think I'll probably have the permenant one put in. What are your
experiences with these things? Good pain relief?? How about follow up
surgeries to "fix" things? My leads are positioned wrong now already.
The worst of my pain is right sided and most of the stim is on the left
side. I told the rep that yesterday but she just turned the unit up
which was very uncomfortable and made me feel like I had parkinsons.
jitter, jitter, jitter....... with my legs. Does anyone ever get the
feeling that you just want the stim turned off?? Like you just can't
stand the feeling anymore??? I know there are a lot of ? here, but I
didn't get a lot of help from the rep or anything. I'm pretty anxious
about this which is funny because I've had 12 surgeries before for
other things but nothing like this.
Thanks for any help.
Ruth
