My name is Holly I am one of the moderator's for this group we have
one thing in comon. I had a teathered spinal cord and had a teathered
cord relase done in 2000 I have under gone 5 stimulator surgeries I
have had the one that is in me now for about two years and pain free.
I do know that not every one gets those results. I should tell you I
had a tarlov cyst surgery done on my low back seven months before the

A word to the wise....infection is not something to mess with........

2007-10-31 01:50:20

Hello all, I thought I would drop a quick post. To make a long story
short I had my total unit pulled out on Thursday. One day short of 5
weeks. The wound were my unit was placed in my side never healed, plus
my unit had twisted slightly. I have a picc line for at least 14 days
and have to have my wound packed every day, maybe every other day. NOT
FUN! I see my doc tomorrow so I'll know more then. I had another dr
pull the unit out since my doc was out of town when everything "blew up".
Anyway, I thought Id give a friendly warning/reminder to everyone to
remember that infection is not something to mess with at all. I may
have to wait 6 months before it can be replaced. You never know how
good something is until you don't have it anymore.
Don't think twice about calling your dr if you think something is
wrong. I know I never will.

God's Cake

2007-10-31 00:16:39

Subject: FW: God's Cake
Sometimes we wonder, "What did I do to deserve this?" or "Why did God have
to do this to me?" Here is a wonderful explanation! A daughter is telling
her Mother how everything is going wrong, she's failing algebra, her
boyfriend broke up with her and her best friend is moving away.

Meanwhile, her Mother is baking a cake and asks her daughter if she would
like a snack, and the daughter says, "Absolutely Mom, I love your cake."

"Here, have some cooking oil," her Mother offers. "Yuck" says her
daughter.

"How about a couple raw eggs?" "Gross, Mom!"

"Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?" "Mom, those are
all yucky!"

To which the mother replies: "Yes, all those things seem bad all by
themselves. But when they are put together in the right way, they make a
wonderfully delicious cake!

God works the same way. Many times we wonder why He would let us go
through such bad and difficult times. But God knows that when He puts
these things all in His order, they always work for good! We just have to
trust Him and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!

God is crazy about you. He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise
every morning.

Whenever you want to talk, He'll listen. He can live anywhere in the
universe, and He chose your heart.

If you like this, send this on to the people you really care about. I did.

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as
well dance.

me again! time to play catch up with everyone

2007-10-30 14:07:03

ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
it feels good to be in my 'puter chair again!!!!!
Hubby suggested I spend today in bed.........yeah right. I spend enough time in
bed out of necessity on bad days....why waste valuable time there?? I am in a
lot of pain, but laying around wallowing in it doesn't help me much....best to
take a few meds if necessary and get on with life!!!!!
Welcome to the newbies!!!
Now, to play catch up.....
Lois.......how are you? What did the test results tell you?
Diane.....YEAH!!!!!! What a blessing, a baby girl!!!
Dina..... Michaels opens August 17th..are we still on?
I told my hubby I have a date ont hat date! :-)
Sheila......haven't seen you on-line....I will keep looking.....did you have
your test for MS yet?
Karen.......how is Ed? How are your girls doing with their crocheting?
Jayne.......did the adjustment on your pump work? Are the spasms better? How is
Jennifer? Emily promises to email her again soon!
well ladies, am staring a new prayer request journal..so send them in to me! I
am sorry if I missed asking someone something above, but I did it from
memory.....well, what there is of my memory!
I have a prayer request.....please pray that my SSI is approved the first time
through....I had to have a 2 hour mental exam on Sunday afternoon for the
process......this is a lot of work! And mentally, it is very exhausting..and a
little depressing, having to compare my life 'then' to 'now'. Do any of you
ever feel like you were someone else totally? Who did those
high heels and dresses in my closet belong too? Could it be there was a time
when I didn't have to wear clothes without zippers and buttons? When I could
have worn shoes with heels, or ones that didn't have to be slip on or velcro?
Or when my hair was long......and it didn't hurt to wash or style it? Now, I
don't even let the haircut lady wash it.....when she has to trim my 'cropped'
hair.
I mentioned the wheelchair to my mom. Her reaction was like my hubby's, almost
like they were mad at me. I guess it just surprised them....but, I would rather
have a wheelchair than not do things..like go to the zoo......or museums....or
malls!!!! It isn't like I am just giving in to my illness...but if I can't do
it, I can't do it!
Hope to post bible studies again real soon!
I've missed you all so much!

Wecome New Members and Hi to those that have been here a while

2007-10-29 17:48:54

Dear Stimulator Friends,
I am glad that the group is a success and still growing to those
that don't know me and why I have my stimulator. I am one of the
moderator's I had a teatherd spinal cord and had a teatherd cord
release surgery done in 2000. In 2002 I went back to see my
neurosurgeon after seeing a pain doc and not getting results. He
told me that I have nerve damage and that a stimulator would help so
I went back to my pain doc and had things set up, I have had five
stimulator surgeries four of them were ans system that failed. I
than had a medtronic put in with internal battery April 28, 2004. I
am blessed and greatful that it helps me do my daily activites
because before I had it I was in so much pain that I could hardle do
anything. Now I can walk without pain and numbness and it helps with
my incontince from the nerve damge. I saw my surgeon today he was
happy to hear that the stimulator is still working successfully.
There is a life after having pain for so long I do get flare ups
every now and than but that is to be expected life can't be perfect.
I know chronic pain isn't easy staying postive with life is the best
thing you can do.
I have noticed that people have been talking about the different
companies for the stimulators and saying not so good things. I
advice anyone that is looking into a stimulator talk to all the
companies compare the costs ask questions. If you come across a
question that you can't get awnsered than talk to someone that can
help you with that company. My rep from medtronic's told me anytime
I have a question just ask so I can ask for any of you and help you
out that way. I can tell you from past experice when I first got the
first surgery with ans that my pain doc didn't tell me the cost or
the company I didn't get educated about it until the day of my
trial. I then found out by my insurance that they are more expensive
and my insurance wasn't happy and asked me if I knew the cost before
the surgery. So please get educated because I wasn't.
If you have any questions for me you can email me or instant message
me I will do what I can for you. I do care about you and getting
some pain relief. I am not always able to get to the computer to
access approval of messages if someone would like to help me that
would be great Jeff has been helping me out alot the group is
growing and we need more moderator's. My health hasn't been the best
lately either it's not my back it's just other things that are new
that cause pain. Please let me know if I can do anything for any of

Welcome Craig!
My name is JC. I havent been apart of this wonderful group for too
long, but I can tell you that it has been a great source of information.
Everyone here has been great, I dont think there has been one question
that I have asked that hasnt been answered.
My offical dx's are arachnoiditis, failed back surgery syndrom, facet
syndrom, and fybermyalgia.
I had my trial done the week before Thanksgiving, and my implant done
the 17th of Feb. So far so good. I had the unit placed on my left side.
I had planned on it being more towards the front of my stomach, but my
dr placed it more off to the side. It has taken some time to remember
not to bump into it. My insision on my back healed beautifully, my front
one is still healing. I have had two bouts with serius(sp) leaking out
and totally soaking every bit of clothing on my left side including my
wonderful(NOT) binder.
Welcome Craig, Im sure you will fit right in here!
JC
PS. Thanks for answering my question.

Who has Medtronic scs and who has Bionic scs?

2007-10-27 04:09:46

Just wondering. At first medtronic was the only name given to me until
a PA told me about a new company "bionic". I dont think there are any
other companies are there?
Its not a big deal or anything. I already have my unit placed, and for
me it seems I chose the correct unit to fit my needs. It just seems
that I keep hearing neg. comments about medtronic than I do about
bionics. Though that could very well be because bionics is the "new
kid on the block".
Example- I should have to recharge my unit once a week, for 2 hours.
Though I have only had to do it twice for a total of 30 minutes. (I
have the unit on 75% of the day and every night.)
Ok, I guess I was wondering what everyone thought about their own
units and if they had the chance would they change to the other one.
Thanks,
JC

A Tribute to Common Sense

2007-10-26 19:00:01

A TRIBUTE
TO
COMMON SENSE
Common Sense, a.k.a. C.S.,
lived a long life but died from heart failure
at the brink of the millennium.
No one really knows how old he was,
his birth records were long ago entangled
in miles and miles of bureaucratic red tape.
Known affectionately to close friends
as Horse Sense and Sound Thinking,
he selflessly devoted himself
to a life of service in homes,
schools, hospitals
and offices,
helping folks get jobs done
without a lot of fanfare,
whooping and hollering.
Rules, regulations,
and petty, frivolous lawsuits
held no power over C.S.
A most reliable sage,
he was credited with cultivating
the ability to know when
to come in out of the rain,
the discovery that the early bird
gets the worm
and how to take the bitter with the sweet.
C.S. also developed
sound financial policies
(don't spend more than you earn),
reliable parenting strategies
(the adult is in charge, not the kid)
and prudent dietary plans
(offset eggs and bacon
with a little fiber and orange juice).
A veteran of the Industrial Revolution,
the Great Depression,
the Technological Revolution
and the Smoking Crusades,
C.S. survived sundry cultural
and educational trends
including disco,
the men's movement,
body piercing,
whole language and new math.
C.S.'s health began declining in the late 1960s
when he became infected with
the If-It-Feels-Good, Do-It virus.
In the following decades
his waning strength proved no match for
the ravages of overbearing
federal and state rules
and regulations
and an oppressive tax code.
C.S. was sapped of strength
and the will to live
as the Ten Commandments became contraband,
criminals received better treatment than victims
and judges stuck their noses in everything
from Boy Scouts to professional baseball and golf.
His deterioration accelerated
as schools implemented zero-tolerance policies.
Reports of 6-year-old boys
charged with sexual harassment
for kissing classmates,
a teen suspended
for taking a swig of Scope mouthwash after lunch,
girls suspended for possessing Midol
and an honor student expelled
for having a table knife
in her school lunch
were more than his heart could endure.
As the end neared,
doctors say C.S. drifted in and out of logic
but was kept informed of developments
regarding regulations of low-flow toilets,
mandatory air bags
and a government plan to ban inhalers
from 14 million asthmatics
due to a trace of a pollutant
that may be harmful to the environment.
Finally,
upon word that several small town councils
were attempting to restrict front porch furniture
to lawn chairs and settees
that are aesthetically attractive,
C.S. breathed his last.
Services will be at
Whispering Pines Cemetery.
C.S. was preceded in death
by his wife, Discretion;
one daughter, Responsibility;
and one son, Reason.
He is also survived by two stepbrothers,
Half-Wit and Dim-Wit.
Memorial contributions may be sent
to the Institute for Rational Thought.

Hi Betty,

Actually Sandy got me started on this stuff. We go to a site called uselessgraphics.com and there are tons of pictures there. Or we just type in free gifs or free animated gifs in the Google search.

Once you find the picture you like, you save it to your computer (I use my pictures file).

When you are ready to send an email, you highlight the insert at the top of the email, click on pictures, and then browse your pictures file. It should be pretty easy to figure out from there.

I hope this makes sense. Sandy can you help us out with anything that might make it easier for Betty to understand?

Happy Hunting

So, far so good.....

2007-10-25 21:53:24

I had my perm. stimulator implanted on the 17th of this month. Though
I have to say this darn binder is starting to make me crazy! Not to
mention not being able to take a simple shower! I had the unit placed
on my left side more towards my stomach. I find that if Im not paying
attention to it I bump into it more than I thought I would. The
Bionic's rep has been really great. I call if I have any questions, or
concerns. Other than my wound check at the drs office(where the rep
met me to make sure I was happy with the settings) all I have to do is
call him up and have him meet me at the drs office if I want him to
tweak my settings.
Things have been good so far, Im trying not to get too caught up in
the relief so far. I won't let this get my hopes up only to have them
stomped on. I have noticed that the tingling(or vibrations) weaken or
get stronger when my posture changes.
I have been on a weeks worth of ceftin for an infected wound. Its
still seeping. The wound area is coming "back to life" Im not sure if
its the stitches that is holding the unit in place, or if it is the
nerves....but its starting to become painful.
Other than my "few" whines and gripes I am doing well.
I hope everyone is doing well. Kepp your heads up and take it one day
at a time. :)

Re: [Stimulator] SCS

2007-10-23 16:55:31

I was told that it works for some and not for others. I had the trial done and
now I am having one implanted on Monday. I received enough relief from the trial
(about 25%). At this point, that percentage is better than what I am without
it.
My suggestion is to try the trial. That is the only way you will know if it
will work for you and your situation. Also, some people can't tolerate the
"sensation" the stimulator gives, the trial will also allow you the opportunity
to test different settings to find what works for you.
Best wishes!

Hello,
I can totally understand the major depression with back problems. I am having a
stimulator implanted on Monday. I am only 39 years old. I have had two
previous back surgeries. I have failed back syndrome with nerve damaged caused
by the first one and this was my last resort to having any amount of relief. I
did the trial it did improve enough for me to have it implanted.
All you can do is do your research and be there to support him. Go on the
following websites and they can help provide great information.

Hi
I've just been finally given my date for having the SCS trial, on 14th
March. I've been told that it may not work - what's the general view
point on success? I'm just worried to pin all my hopes on something
that may not work, as everything else I' ve tried hasn't worked. I
have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and my options are fast running out
If anyone's got any views, I'd like to hear them

there is a trick to getting published. The editors that I have talked to on

Holly,
Hi i am Dennis a rookie to the group. I was wondering if you are
aware of any studies or other info about the SCS and metal hardware
in the back? I have been suggested to have an SCS but I have
contacted Medtronic 3 times only for them to blow off my question.
They keep telling me to confer with my physician. I think it's a red
flag when the manufacturer of a medical device won't answer what I
feel is a very good question.
Thanks,
Dennis

Dennis,
I just recently completed the SCS trial and I am scheduled for the implant on
the 27th. I have rods, screws, cage and a stabilizer in my low back, I did not
notice anything as far as a problem with the stimulator. The rep from Medtronic
was in the room when they did the trial and she saw the hardware in my back and
never said anything. I do no think it will effect it, at least it didn't for
me.
I hope this helps.

WHAT ABOUT ABSTINENCE?

2007-10-19 20:31:30

WHAT ABOUT ABSTINENCE by Robert Layton
I was holding a notice from my thirteen year olds son's school
announcing a meeting to preview the new course in sexuality. Parents
could examine the curriculum and take part in an actual lesson presented
exactly as it would be given to the students.
When I arrived at the school, I was surprised to discover only about a
dozen parents there. As we waited for the presentation, I thumbed
through page after page of instructions in the prevention of pregnancy
or disease. I found abstinence mentioned only in passing.
When the teacher arrived with the school nurse, she asked if there were
any questions. I asked why abstinence did not play a noticeable part in
the material.
What happened next was shocking. There was a great deal of laughter, and
someone suggested that if I thought abstinence had any merit, I should
go back to burying my head in the sand. The teacher and the nurse said
nothing as I drowned in a sea of embarrassment. My mind had gone blank.
I could think of nothing to say.
The teacher explained to me that the school's job was to teach "facts"
and the home was responsible for moral training. I sat in silence for
the next 20 minutes as the course was explained. The other parents
seemed to give their unqualified support to the materials.
"Donuts, at the back," announced the teacher. "Break time!"
"I'd like you to put on the name tags we have prepared, they are right
by
the donuts-and mingle with the other parents." Everyone moved to the
back of the room.
As I watched them affixing their name tags and shaking hands, I sat deep
in thought. I was ashamed that I had not been able to convince them to
include a serious discussion of abstinence in the materials.
I uttered a silent prayer for guidance. My thoughts were interrupted by
the teacher's hand on my shoulder. "won't you join the others?" The
nurse smiled sweetly at me. "The donuts are good."
"Thank you, no." I replied.
"Well, then, how about a name tag?"
"I'd rather not," I replied.
"Won't you please join them?" she coaxed.
"I'll just wait here, "I said.
When the class was called back to order, the teacher looked around the
long table and thanked everyone for putting on name tags. She ignored
me.
Then she said," Now we are going to give you the same lesson we'll be
giving your children. Everyone please peel off your name tags." I
watched in silence as the tags came off.
Now, then, on the back of one of the tags I drew a flower. Who has it
please?"
The man across from me held it up. "Here it is!"
"All right," she said. "The flower represents disease, Do you recall
with whom you shook hands?" He pointed to a couple of people. "Very
good," she replied.
"The handshake in this case represents intimacy. So the two people you
had contact with now have the disease." There was laughter and joking
among the parents. The teacher continued, "With whom did the 2 of you
shake hands?" The point was well taken, and she explained how this
lesson would show students how quickly disease is spread. "Since we all
shook hands, we all have the disease."
"Speak now," I thought, "but be humble." I noted wryly the latter
admonition, then rose from my chair. I apologized for any upset I might
have caused earlier, congratulated the teacher on an excellent lesson
that would impress the youth.
I concluded by saying that I had only one small point I wished to make.
"Not all of us were infected," I said. One of us abstained."

court update

2007-10-19 03:14:57

Hi

Thank you all for your prayers. Neither him or his attorney showed up in court today. The childrens attorney said that their father has yet to meet with her no surprise to us he would have to pay her half the fee . So given the fact that he return them very late twice, she is late to cheer practice or doesn't show etc. The Judge ordered visitation to be every other weekend beginning on Fri to Sun and only Wed nights. So that is giving him less time than he started with before going to court.
He also ordered him to attend parenting class immediately, pay the counselor fee, meet with Granddaughter's counselor with my daughter so that she would continue to see my GD and cost to be split 50/50. There is no court date set right now but sure we will have to go again.

Past Medtronic DCS user

2007-10-17 01:10:17

Hi all,
It was really great visiting your site. I, like so many I've read
about on this site were injured at work. Just trying to deal with
the medical side of your problems is bad enough you also have to
deal with an insurance company. All they are interested in is
getting rid of you at the least amount of expence. I tried to deal
with them myself for a year. Nothing got me more medical attention
than a w/c lawyer. I got away from the "company doctors" and to
someone who cared about me instead of the company whose payroll they
were on. Don't hire a lawyer you see on tv either. You need one who
is interested in you instead of a settlement. My lawyer handled my
case for 8 years before getting a dime. I was a lineman with our
phone company. The bucket I was riding in was struck by a dump
truck. I was ejected from the bucket. I was wearing the required
lanyard. It connected me via a 8' tether attaced at the back of the
belt to the bucket. After being ejected, I was allowed to fall 8'
before it snatched me to a stop. This probably saved my life, but
ruptured the L-4,5 dics. I went through all the physical therapy
crap for a year. Then I had a laminectomy. One year later a
discectomy. After every operation the pain slowly returned, only
worst than before. A year later I was implanted with the Dorsal
Column Stimulator. The DCS worked good to "mask" my leg pain. Six
weeks after the implant I was sent to physical therpy. My therapist
had no idea what a DCS was. I described to her what it was, showed
her my scars. She had me on the floor with my legs on a ball. I was
suppossed to let my legs go from side to side (rolling on top of the
ball) when I felt a stinging in my back. My DCS also stopped
working. I had just torn my lead into. I had to have the lead
replaced in surgery one week later. Two years after that I had
surgery to replace a dead battery. One year later, I noticed the
stimulation was not reaching anywhere near the level of pain relief
it used to. I returned to the Dr. to have medtronics reevaluate the
stimulator. Whenever the tech tried to adjust the stimulation, the
feeling was being delivered to my side instead of my legs. I had a
dual channel stimulator, I can increase or decrease the stimulation
in either leg seperatly. It was my right leg that had the
stimulation going into my side. The only way to resolve this was to
correct the lead again. I decited that enough was enough. This past
November I had the stimulator removed. Some of my leg pain has
deminished and my wife noticed that I was beginning to be able to
walk more upright for the first time in a few years. I also dont
miss the stimulator generator being in my upper buttocks. If anyone
else has one implanted there, you probably realize the pain of a
door hitting on your butt or backing into something. I have two
Metronic Synergy EZ controllers. One came with the unit, and the
other I bought myself after missplacing the first. The replacement
controller cost me $998.00. I'm sure someone could use these. I
would panic after turning up the DCS to high and then not being able
to find the controller. Also, forgetting it's even on until I laid
back on the bed to sleep only having to get back up to find my
controller. I considered in posting them on e-bay. If anyone's
interested in one or both e-mail me. dowis43@...
I wish the best for anyone going through back problems. No one knows
our problems more than someone whose found this group. I've been
dealing with this for nine years. One thing that has always kept me
going is remembering that no matter how bad my situation was, I only
need to look around (not far) to find someone worst off than myself.
Sure my back and legs hurt all the time but at least I can walk.
God bless you all.
Dowis

hello all!

2007-10-16 15:43:00

hi ladies!!!!!!!!
Well, I am sufficiently recovered to bring you all up-to-date. First, welcome
to the newbies.......I haven't read all the posts in the archive from when i was
gone, so I am not totally caught up.
DIANE!!!!! WOW!!!!!! A baby!!!!! that is so cool!!!! I am so happy for you!
BTW, did Zacharay get anything in the mail????? I sent him a little get well
package...I am glad to hear that he is all better..poor kiddo. Well, you will be
very busy, as if you weren't already!?!!?!?!?!
On to vacation..if you can call it that. Long dive, plane ride, longer plane
ride, another long drive...just to get there! Tired already. Sore, and
nauseous to begin the visit. Really wasn't much different than being home,
except that besides trying to get my kids to behave (any little disruption of
the boys routine and they kinda lose it...)It seemed I had to work this around
my mother-in-law. It was very hot, but apparantly the cold front I prayed for
did show up. It was in the 80's and 90's while we were there. Still too hot to
do much. Kids had fun, they were on the go with grandma and grandpa. Grandpa
will need a few weeks of rest to make up for this. And Rob went and played
cowboy for a day with his cousins. He enjoyed that. Saw lots of family and
family friends. To tell the truth (and I always do) it was just not a happy
time for me. But, this was for the kids and Rob. I am just exhasuted, mentally
and physically. It was actually pretty stressful for me. I am so glad to be
home.
Had a doctor's appt. today with a new dr. The dr. I just found in May (Thank
You Dina), went on maternity leave. She's adopting a newborn baby! So, this
was just kind of a follow-up on the meds that she prescribed. I got a new
prescription...for an electric wheelchair!! VROOM VROOM!!!!!! :-) Probably
sounds a little extreme to some of you..but, I refuse to skip family activites
cause I can't walk. I can't even walk half of our little mall here. I don't
get out a whole lot as it is, but if having a wheelchair makes it easier and I
have to 'pay' less in the following days..then so be it. I am not too proud to
ride in a wheelchair. The dr. was asking me if I had any idea WHY my FMS was so
bad. (She's probably the 4th or 5th doctor that has mentioned how badly I have
this.)...I told her my only theory was that because I went so long with
symptoms....thinking I was just run down and got the flu a lot, I really pushed
and pushed myself. Looking back, that probably just exacerbated flare after
flare..and during flares are when symptoms show up or are added..then they might
not ever leave. Now, a flare is just when I have really bad symptoms, and a LOT
of them, for a week or so......I have some FMS symptoms constantly (headache,
fatigue, TPs, neck pain, all over achiness, flu symptoms)....there is no relief.
I began the process of filing for SSI about a month or so ago. Filled out
additional paperwork this week...please pray that I am approved the first time.
Sunday afternoon (of all times!) I have to go in for a 'mental' exam with a
psychologist for the SSI board. Apparantly, most people have to do this.
Probably because some of my FMS meds are anti-depressants I guess. I know I am
not depressed..I have struggled with depression, and thankfully, it is not a
problem at the moment. So, this will be an interesting experience I am sure.....
Would you all please add Ryan to your prayer lists. He's my 8 year old. He
(and his brother) have ADHD and post-traumatic stress disorder. We are having
just problem after behavior problem with him. Bad judgement, disrespectful,
poor decision making, spacing out....defiant, oppositional, took a swing at Rob
(dumb move!)ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! We start attachment therapy with both boys next
week. Ryan is on Mondays and Avery is on Thursdays. So actually, if you could
just add us all! This is supposed to get very ugly, but will allow the boys to
heal and lose some of their ugly baggage from their pasts.
Well, I am all tuckered out from chatting so much! I think it is time for a
nap, or at least a movie and some crocheting...
OH!!!!!!!
I knew there was something else.... I received a copy of a hardcover crochet

Medtronics stimulator

2007-10-16 12:34:10

Hello everyone. I am a new member to this group. I was very excited to
find this site regarding stimulators. Over five years ago I fell
downstairs and eventually had two rods and a cage inserted in my back
along with a plated in my neck. I live on a 100mg Fentyenal patch
every 48 hours along with five vicoden a day for pain. I really want
to have the stimulator installed but have many questions. I have seen
pros and cons. How many limitations will I have? How up to date are
the stimulators now as I have read about battery problems etc. Is
there someone who I can call with a stimulator to talk to about all
the questions I have. Sorry I have made these comments so long but I
have gone through about five surgeries and I am very sceptical about
going through any more cutting. Thankyou
Dick

Hello group
I hope everyone is doing well. I am scheduled for my stimulator Trial next

Any information, suggestions etc. are very welcomed (good or bad).

Hey Girls,
I was looking at the photos and I added one of Lynda and I taken

chubby one who isn't dressed for anything except work. It's just great
to see what some of you look like! Putting faces to names is terrific!
Let's keep those photos coming girls!

Hi!

2007-10-15 04:39:15

Hi, I have been watching y'all for a while. You are all very caring.
I thought that I should introduce myself. My name is Angelique, I
live in Austin , Texas. I have been married for not quite 14 years,
that is a couple of months away. My husband is very supportive of my
problems and helps me in any way he can. I have 2 children; Theresa
Ann, who is 9, going on 20, and Christopher Sheen who is 4. I try to
be a Medical Transcriptionist when I am able to work. I have
Fibromyalgia, IBS, bad allergies of everything. Now I am being told
I have carpel tunnel syndrome or degenerative bone disease in my
C-spine. I know what a jump. I have headaches everyday, but I don't
know what I would do if I didn't have all of my medications. I have
a truly supportive family network. This whole experience is a gift
from our loving God. Do y'all ever have chat times. I would love to
chat with ya'll. It would be nice to talk to others that are in my
same boat. Oh yeah I have fibrofog REAL bad, so if I repeat myself,
tell me. I have a great sense of humor, and I love to laugh at
myself. It is something that Jesus taught me a long time ago. Well I
had better be going my AC is out and it is 100 degrees outside, but
it
is 90 degrees inside. I had better go over to my in-laws. I just
wanted to introduce myself. By the way, you are all on my prayer
list. Thank you again for being here.

In my opinion, there is only 1 medical alert

www.medicalert.org
I starting wearing one for diabetes insipidus and for
drug allergies many years ago. My sister is a medical

Give Your child to God.........pretty powerful

2007-10-14 12:17:07

GIVE YOUR CHILD TO GOD
Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He
will do it
(Psalm 37:5).
You can and should uphold Christian values and
standards in your
own home. But when your child leaves your home, he
leaves with
his own values, beliefs and personal agenda. This is
the first
half of the prodigal son story (Luke 15:11-32). The
prodigal son
wanted to do his own thing, so his father let him. I
don't think
the father would have let the boy rule in his home,
but he did
let him go. We don't like to see our children fail or
make
mistakes like that. When they do, we are too quick to
rescue them
from the natural consequences of their actions.
The father in the story welcomed his son home after
the boy came
to his senses. His repentance was complete: "Father, I
have
sinned against heaven and in your sight; I am no
longer worthy to
be called your son" (verse 21). The critical insight
we need is
offered by the father: "This son of mine was dead, and
has come
to life again" (verse 24). When your child is out of
your sight,
only God can bring him to his senses, bring him home,
and give
him life.
You can't go everywhere your child goes, but God can.
He is the
child's heavenly Father, and He is fully capable of
protecting
him.
I know of a dear lady who has buried two sons and
witnessed the
miracle healing of her husband from a near-fatal car
accident.
But her hardest trial was discovering that her beloved
third son
was struggling with homosexuality. Months of dark
depression were
lifted in one day when she realized that her son
belonged to God,
so she gave her boy to Him. For 11 years she didn't
hear from
him. Then one day he called and said he had a Mother's
Day
present for her. He had come back to the Lord!
God is in control. When you pray you release Him to do
what only
He can do in your child's life. And when you pray, He
can mold
your parenting style so you can do what He has called
you to do
in raising your child.
Lord, I release my children to Your care and
protection, and I
relinquish my will for them in favor of Your will.

Question about medical alert bracelets

2007-10-13 22:07:34

Hello everyone!
I hope this note finds everyone doing well. I am wondering if any one can
answer a question about medical alert bracelets. I currently take neurontin and
the prescription bottle states I should be wearing a medical alert bracelet. I
contact my doctor and he state that I don't necessarily need one for my
medication but I should have one for the stimulator.
I am scheduled to have the stimulator trial on January 10th. Does anyone here
where a bracelet for the stimulators? If so, where is the best place to get
one.
Thanks for the help! Happy Holidays to all!
Make it a GREAT Day!

I Saw Jesus

2007-10-13 08:01:29

"I See Jesus"
(Written by Summer Waters, age 11)
I saw Jesus last week.
He was wearing blue jeans and an old shirt.
He was up at the church building;
He was alone and working hard.
For just a minute he looked a little like one of our members.
But it was Jesus -
I could tell by his smile.
I saw Jesus last Sunday.
He was teaching a Bible class.
He didn't talk real loud or use long words,
But you could tell he believed what he said.
For just a minute, he looked like my Bible teacher.
But it was Jesus -
I could tell by his loving voice.
I saw Jesus yesterday.
He was at the hospital visiting a friend who was sick.
They prayed together quietly.
For just a minute he looked like Brother Jones.
But it was Jesus -
I could tell by the tears in his eyes.
I saw Jesus this morning.
He was in my kitchen making my breakfast and fixing me a special lunch.
For just a minute he looked like my mom.
But it was Jesus -
I could feel the love from his heart.
I see Jesus everywhere,
Taking food to the sick,
Welcoming others to his home,
Being friendly to a newcomer,
And for just a minute I think he's someone I know.
But it's always Jesus -
I can tell by the way he serves.

Mothering.........this is really neat

2007-10-12 23:08:22

May I go now?" the almost completed, eager mother asked. "Not yet.
There are essential parts and finishing touches to be added," her Maker
replied.
"I look pretty good to me," she said, peering into the crystal pool at
her feet.
"True, you're looking better all the time. But bear with me."
"What does a mother have to do, besides wash, feed, and clothe little
bodies?".
HE only smiled and continued working.
"What are you doing now?" the curious mother-to-be questioned.
"Tightening your anger valve. If this doesn't work, everyone is in
trouble."
She watched as He reached for the container marked patience.
"And what do I need patience for?" she asked as He poured in quite a
supply.
"After a week you will know, my child."
"And whatever could that be?"
"This is your bypass mechanism. It enables a mother to operate
efficiently for long periods of time without ocmpliments from her
children."
"I'm sure I won't need that."
"I'm sure you will."
Then HE reached for a bundle labeled insulation against loud noises.
"You can skip that," she told him. "I don't mind a little noise."
"That's nice," He said.
Seeing all the energy He was preparing to give her, she shifted uneasily
from one foot to the other.
"I wouldn't need all that energy in a million years."
"Little you know. You will use all of this and be begging for more
before long."
"I didn't know there was so much involved in being a mother. You're not
just putting me on, are you?"
"No, little mother." HE said.
With much apprehension she asked, "Are you sure I can handle the job?"
"Quite sure...with help."
"I'm always available when you need me." HE tells to her.
"I'm glad to know that. What could I possible need all these for?" she
asks.
"A certain amount of pain, so that you will be fully equipped to
sympathize with and minister to the needs of your children when they
feel pain; tears, so that you will be able to cry with them when they
are hurt; and laughter to blend with theirs for happy times."
The mother-in-waiting fidgeted while HE attached yes and no buttons.
"Wouldn't it be nicer just to say yes to my children all the time?"
"Definitely not. Good mothers need to say no-and often. Say it with
kindness and they will respect you for it."
"Have you equipped me with this thing called kindness?"
"I have indeed." HE said.
"And what about respect? Do I have to respect my children?" she asks.
"Absolutely."
The anxious mother tried to be patient as HE installed a question
answerer, advice giver, get along without sleep, and a pretender not to
notice.
"I know I wouldn't use one of those!" she said, as HE came toward her
with a let-go lever.
"Sure you will, though it's hard. This is a vital piece of equipment.
Until this little lever is released, your children will
not have room to grow properly, make their own decisions, or develop
their own personalities."
"I guess that is important." she said.
HE stood back a few steps to appraise His work, then reached for a coat
of love and wrapped it around her.
"Wear this at all times, and you'll be a good mother."
"Am I ready to get on with the mothering bit?"
"You can go now," HE said gently. "You're not perfect, but you will do."

Chat for the group

2007-10-12 06:21:39

Hi Stimulator Friends,
I am working on getting chat going for everyone so people are on the
can chat about the stimulator. However if you would like to have a
certain time to have a chat group just let me know, and if someone
would like to help me out with getting that going for a certain time
that would be great just let me know. I had taken a poll for this a
while back and some people said they wanted to do it. I will post
another one to see if you all still would like to have a chat for the
group. I personally think it would be great for people to be able to
talk about there pain and get support and help on the trials to the
surgery etc...

---Hi Lisa,
I am sorry that your having problems with the paddle lead. I have had
the paddle lead before put didn't experice what you are going through.
I hope you have gotten a hold of your neoursurgeon cause it sounds
like it might have moved on you. I know when I had leads move on me it
hurt like crazy I just knew my doctor had me get x-rays I was right.
Though it could also be that the stimulator is up to high with certian
part of the lead I have forgot the medical term for it. You can also
have your rep talk to him as well. Have you tried having your
stimulator rep reprogram it to see what the lead is doing? Let me know
what's going on and also if I can help you anymore that what I have
asked. I can talk to my rep that does mine he may have some in sight
but yours would know since he was there for the placemeant. How is
the stimulator working it's self besides causing you pain?
I will be on this week to help out since my Aunt is helping take care
of my grandpa and my other Aunt in Uncle will be here sometime next
week as well. Please let me know what progress you have made with your
doctor and stimulator rep..

Hi Stimulator Friends it been a while

2007-10-11 19:40:59

Hi Everyone,
Some of you may not know me I am one of the group moderator's I have
been taking care of my grandpa and going to school. I am finished
studying now I just have my externship to become a phlebotomist. I
plan to futher my education in the medical field once I have been
drawing blood for a while. I am excited that once it hits April 28 of
2006 I will have had my stimulator for two years. It's been a blessing
to have it help me so much so that I can go to school and than go to
work. However my limit for work is part time to start out to see if my
body can handle that much than down the road I want to become full
time though I need to talk to my doctor about that one.
If you have questions for me ever just email me, I don't always have a
computer access to get online to see how you all are doing, however I
have internet on my cell phone to email people. If you need someone to
talk to as well off line just let me know and you can call me or I can
call you. I am here to help any way I can for all of you I really do
care about your health and progress with your trails to having the
surgery and success with the stimulator. I have had five stimulator
surgeris the first four weren't very successful because of the device.
I am gald that I didn't give up on it though it's nice to be pain free
and not have to be in pain all the time.
I know it's close to time for christmas just remember not to over work
yourself that will put you in more pain.

I have the Medronix long life battery unit, and it doesn't plugg inb
some place. LOL The recharger plugs into a wall outlet. Then you
place the disk into a belt you wear a top the implant and it
recharges the internal battery. Slick and easy!
My unit was put in Oct 6. No pain in the stomach area where the new
unit was placed, however my buttocks is still very painful where
they took out the old short life battery one after 7 months of
inflamation problems.
I was told they have had to move many of the units to the stomach
from the buttocks. The long life battery is half the size of the
short life unit!

I had such dreadful inflamation with the unit in my buttocks-you
know when you wealk you use those muscles. I had it moved to my
stomach and no soreness, no problems. When it was in the buttocks I
couldn't wear regular pants only stretch ones.
I guess everyone's body is different and I am guessing your weight
will play into the placement and comfort.

Three Levels of Prayer

2007-10-10 01:29:51

Subject: Three levels Of Prayer
Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks;
for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians
5:16-18).
I have observed three approaches to prayer which progress from
level to level. The first level is petition. We are encouraged to
let our requests be made known to God (Philippians 4:6). If it
helps us to keep a list of daily prayer reminders, we should do
so. However, most people weary of this, and their devotional life
disappears over time. Often they don't see immediate results from
their prayers, so they conclude that more can be accomplished if
they just get busy for the Lord.
We've progressed to the second level when prayer becomes
personal. We have discovered a new dimension when we are
comfortable in His presence and don't feel obligated to talk.
It's much like a marriage relationship. A mature couple can ride
together in the car for hours, enjoying each other's company,
without having to say a word. I can just be with God and I'm
learning to listen.
Realizing that I need not feel obligated to keep the conversation
going when I'm with God has changed my prayer life dramatically.
This kind of prayer makes my relationship with God a
24-hour-a-day experience. Setting aside special times for prayer
is still important. But when we leave our quiet time, the sense
of God's presence should remain with us throughout the day.
I call the third dimension of prayer true intercession. True
intercessors hear from God. They know how to pray and what to
pray for. In my observation, there are very few true intercessory
prayer warriors. The ones I know of are usually older than 50 and
most are women. They pray privately in their homes and often at
night. Every church has at least one or two of them. Share your
family needs with them. When these people pray, things happen
because they don't just talk to God, they listen to Him.
Father, I want to grow in all dimensions of prayer to the point
that I sense Your presence and hear Your voice

Update and a few questions....

2007-10-09 03:31:25

Hi!
Hope fall is treating everyone well. I got my trial started on
Friday. Things went pretty well, it was a hurry up and wait from the
time I arrived at the hospital. I talked to the Bionics rep, then my
doc. I really dont know why I thought recovery wouldnt be a big
deal...(i should have known from everyones experiences here) but gosh
I was so so sore Friday night, Saturday and even Sunday. I just had
one lead placed. They went for my left leg(I would have rather had
them focus on my low- middle back more) per the doc and rep the legs
are harder to control then the back. (If I knew my butt was going to
be hanging out on that table in that cold room for so long while they
were getting ready I woulda had a smiley face on there waving back!
LOL) I kept getting getting this horrible pain in my rib area. I was
told that this would subside. Well, it did not. As a matter of fact
this am(monday) when I woke to hook myself up I didnt get any
tingling, ect in my left leg. I just felt my right rib area tighten to
the point I actually ripped the wire out of the extenal unit instead
of shutting it off by the button. I messed around with it a bit, but
it was no use. I could only guess that the lead had migrated. BIG BUMMER!
Thankfully Trent,(the Bionics rep) called me to see how I was doing.
I explained that I actually had been sleeping better..so much so that
I was really sore from not moving around in the bed as I normally do.
He said that on Wed when I go in to end the trial, that if I come in a
hour before that he would adjust the unit to see if we could get the
left hip/butt area to get some stimulation. It doesnt seem like a long
trial but, I have a 16 month old nephew to take care of during the day
. So this has been rough just these last few days.
Anyway, the rep asked me if I thought I would go for the implantation.
I will if I can get the stim to the left hip/butt area, otherwise NO.
I wont. My doc's requriements for implantation are 50% increase of
activity, 50% decrease of pain, and 50% decrease of pain meds or for
me Oxycontin.
So, I have a lot to think about until Wed. My questions are if anyone
has had any rib pain in the trial or implantation did it subside?
Are there any thoughts/questions that went thru your mind before perm
implantation that you would like to share with me? Sleep is a big deal
for me, but I cant seem to see getting this unti perm. if it only has
helped me with my sleep.
TIA,
You guys are really a saving grace. Im so glad that I found this group!
JC :)
